Early Life and Education
Jared grew up in the small mining town Flin Flon in northern Canada. The environment there helped him become strong and adaptable as he navigated extreme weather conditions. At a young age, he began working in the mines, and during his free time he was trained by fighters from his town, learning the techniques of mixed martial arts.
However, while going through all of this, he discovered a strong desire to pursue a career as an actor. After matriculating from high school, he enrolled at Vancouver Film School, intent on paving his way as an actor.
VFS is a private school in Canada and is internationally renowned, known for producing numerous high-profile names in the entertainment industry, such as Neill Blomkamp, Emily Bett Rickards, Kevin Smith, and Hannah Hall. He completed his studies there, joining its distinguished alumni, then pursued further studies by enrolling in numerous acting workshops, including taking classes in other schools in Vancouver such as the Actors Foundry, which is known for holding weekly and online classes. Shortly afterwards, he began taking a few projects, with his first being in the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days”.
Rise to Fame
In 2014, Abrahamson was cast in a five-episode role in the television series “Awkward”, playing the character Pete. The show follows the story of a female teenager who is in a phase of questioning her identity. The show was well received and ran for a total of five seasons, though he only appeared there during the fourth season. He also had a guest role in “Fear the Walking Dead”, and his second film role was in the drama ‘The Submarine Kid”, starring Finn Wittrock.
In 2016,he got his breakthrough role in the Canadian drama called “Hello Destroyer”, playing the role of Tyson Burr, a hockey enforcer, an unofficial role in which he serves as a goon to disrupt the other team.
However, during one of his games, he violently hits an opposing player harder than intended. The film was nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards – he gained a lot of praise for his performance – and won four Leo Awards and eight Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards, with Jared winning in the category Best Actor in a Canadian Film.
Continued Success in Acting
Following this success, Jared was then one of the main cast members in the Netflix show “Travelers”, joining Eric McCormack, Mackenzie Porter, Patrick Gilmore, Reilly Dolman and Nesta Cooper.
It is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where special agents are assigned to fix time by sending their consciousness back where they can inhabit another body, in efforts to save themselves before their impending death. The show covers their lives as agents, the rules they must abide, and the conflicts they face while living another person’s life. In the show, Jared is depicted as the engineer of his team, and one of the oldest humans ever, but when he travels back in time, he assumes the life of an athlete in high school. The show ran for three seasons before it ended in 2019.
While working on “Travelers”, he also continued taking film work – he had roles in the Canadian drama “Never Steady, Never Still”, and the thriller “Keep Watching” in which he worked with Bella Thorne. He also had a role in the American-Canadian co-production “Sweet Virginia”, which saw him work alongside Jon Bernthal. He also gained a bit of attention for his work in the independent film “Gregoire”, which was nominated for numerous awards. One of his latest projects is “American Animals”, which is based on the Transylvania University library heist of 2004; the film received a lot of positive reviews.

He has also competed in professional kickboxing, specifically Muay Thai where he holds a professional record of 2-0.
Personal Life
It is believed that Jared is single, but he hasn’t talked about his romantic life, which he prefers to keep it away from the public, being focused on developing his career further, taking in acting work when he can.
He is a close friend of Bernie Yao whom he met during the filming of “Hello Destroyer”.
His background in mixed martial arts has helped him land roles, as he already has proper training for most fight scenes. With his budding career, he’s been compared by publications to several other popular Canadian actors, such as Ryan Reynolds and Stephen Amell. With many Canadian action stars being cast as superheroes, there is speculation that he might pursue a similar path in the future.
