Early life and education
Melissa’s grandfather was born in China, and came to Buffalo in New York with his wife and their children. Melissa was raised in Great Neck by her father who was a taxi driver, and her mother who was teaching at a local high school.

She was interested in acting and modelling while growing up, as most of her friends were into that as well, and while attending high school, Melissa was a member of the school’s drama club, while also playing sports such as soccer and lacrosse. She also started watching Kaity Tong, a news anchor from New York, while attending high school and became interested in reporting. Upon matriculating, she enrolled at Harvard College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government in 1995.
Career as a reporter and other ventures
While still attending Harvard, Melissa served as assistant managing editor of “The Harvard Crimson” and after that, started working for the New York newspaper “Great Neck Record”.
From there she joined Bloomberg Television, which is an ‘American-based pay television network centered towards business and capital market programming”, where she stayed for two years before joining CNN Financial News, and gained recognition as a reporter. After that, she tried something different, and became a consultant working at Mercer Management Consulting, where she was mostly focused on their banking sector.
She joined CNBC in 2004 and became their reporter and news anchor. In January 2009, she was occasionally hosting the show “Closing Bell” whenever the anchor was unavailable, which follows everything connected to the New York Stock Exchange.

She has also hosted and anchored other CNBC shows, such as “Fast Money” and “Money in Motion: Currency Trading”. On 27 March 2009, she became the main host of “Fast Money” after Dylan Ratigan, the former host of the show, left to work at MSNBC. For her performance in the show, she was nominated for but didn’t win two Emmy Awards. She hosted the CNBC documentary “Made in China: The People’s Republic of Profit” on 3 February 2010 and then hosted another documentary “Coca-Cola: The Real Story Behind the Real Thing”.
As she was praised for her performance, Melissa was invited to host other CNBC documentaries, such as “The $50M Con”, “Code Wars: America’s Cyber Threat”, and “Bitcoin: Boom or Bust”. She is currently hosting three CNBC shows – “Options Action”, “Fast Money”, and “Money in Motion: Currency Trading”, while also one of four hosts of the show “Power Lunch”, which talks about people and businesses and things currently going on in Wall Street.
Love life and education
Melissa met Benjamin Kallo while the two were reporting the same event in 2012, started dating not long after, and married five years later on 18 August 2017 at a private location, with only their closest friends and family attending.

He launched his career by working at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor from 2003 to 2006, before joining Pacific Growth Equities until 2008. He then joined Stanford Group Company where he served as Vice President for 11 months before switching to Robert W. Baird where he has been for nearly 11 years now, currently working as their senior research analyst.
Hobbies and other interests
Melissa likes to travel in her free time, and has been to most of the US national parks as she enjoys spending her free time in the nature, while she has also visited several European countries such as France, Germany and Italy – her dream travel destination is Miami, Florida.
She is keen on watching movies, with some of her favorite actors and actresses being Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, and Meryl Streep, while some of her favorite films are “Catch Me If You Can”, “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, and “The Devil Wears Prada”.
She is a lover of animals, and has a pet dog and a pet cat. Melissa is physically active, and has several training sessions at the gym each week, while she also does yoga and meditates. She is following a strict diet and does not eat sugar or fast food – her favorite cuisine is Italian, especially spaghetti.
She is a philanthropist and has donated large amounts to charity organizations working with underprivileged children, such as Genesis Foundation, Pratham Education Foundation, and Katha.
