Joya grew up in a Jewish family in California, and while at school she excelled in her academics. As she grew up, she came to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a doctor, so after matriculating from high school, she then completed a bachelor’s degree, before enrolling at Georgetown University as a part of the medical program.

The private university is one of the oldest and most highly selective schools in the country, known for numerous prestigious programs and alumni consisting of many prolific politicians.

Joya met Jon in Los Angeles and started a relationship before he’d broken through in the industry. She is the niece of talk show host “Len Tillem”, who is known for his work on radio and podcasts, and was a part of KKSF News Talk programming during the early-2010s.
