Early life and education
Nina was raised a single child by her father who worked for the government, and her mother who was a housewife.

She spent only a couple of years in Springfield before her family moved to Cleveland in Ohio, where she studied at Rocky River High School. She became interested in journalism while there, and was running the school’s newspaper with a couple of friends, while also dreaming of becoming a popular actress, and appearing in many plays. She was also a member of a band in which she was the lead vocal and a keyboard player.
Nina was smarter than most of her peers, and according to Wikipedia she matriculated in 1970 when she was only 14.
She later attended Strasberg Institute in California where she studied acting, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre in 1976.
Career as an actress, disc jockey, and other ventures
Nina started working as a model at the age of 17, and in 1978 appeared nude in the Playboy’s issue “The Girls in the Office”, for which she was criticized by her parents and some friends.
She launched her acting career in 1982, appearing in the action crime movie “Vice Squad” which starred Wings Hauser and Season Hubley, and follows the story of a single mother who is a prostitute, and who starts working for the police to catch a pimp called Ramrod.
In 1993, she appeared in the comedy film “Reckless Kelly” which starred Yahoo Serious, Melora Hardin and Alexei Sayle, and which follows Kelly who is an Australian outlaw, and who gives the money he takes to the poor, pretending to be the ‘Australian Robin Hood’. One of Nina’s last appearances in movies before retiring was in the comedy music film “I Crave Rock & Roll”, directed and written by Carmen Santa Maria, and which starred Carl Ballantine and Tony Colitti, while she was also performing in the episodic play “The Vagina Monologues” while they were touring across the US in 2003.
When the MTV network started working in 1981, Nina was chosen together with Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, J. J. Jackson and Mark Goodman to serve as their disc jockeys. She was with them for five years until she joined the entertainment TV newsmagazine “Entertainment Tonight”, and became the host of their show “Rock Report”. Around the same time she started hosting the music program “Solid Gold”, and went on to appear in a variety of shows airing on networks such as VH1, MSNBC, and The Discovery Channel among others.
She and Danny Sheridan, the late American musician, songwriter and actor, launched their own radio show “Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80’s” in 1999.
After the show became popular, they launched another show “Nina Blackwood’s New Wave Nation”, while she is today hosting the show “The ‘90s on 8” which can be listened to on Sirius XM Radio. She is also hosting another Sirius XM Radio show called “The Big ‘80s Top 40 Countdown”.
She has stated that the popular English musician John Charles Waite wrote his hit song “Missing You” for her, as well as his other ex-girlfriends.
Love life and relationships
Nina has been in several relationships, but the ‘most popular’ among these was with John Waite.
The two started dating in 1980 after meeting at a party, and were together for over three years during which Nina could have been seen keeping him company at his concerts, and travelling with him for holidays to Europe and several US states. They later split, and John married a girl 20 years younger than himself, but they divorced two years later.
According to several sources, Nina met her unnamed ex-husband sometime in the ‘80s, and they dated for over four years before marrying in 1990, at a small ceremony attended by their closest friends and family. They lasted only a year, as they divorced in 1991.
Nina currently appears to be single and has no children.
Hobbies and other interests
Nina has been interested in music since she was a teenager, and she fell in love with the harp the moment she saw it at the age of eight. She was taking lessons for over five years, and is today a professional harpist and is also teaching harp to children. She likes to travel and has been all around the US as well as to many European countries, such as Norway and Italy, while her dream travel destination is Amsterdam in Netherlands.
She likes to watch movies in her spare time, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis and Nicole Kidman, while her favorite movies are the trilogy “The Godfather”, “Pulp Fiction”, and “Sleepless in Seattle”. She enjoys reading books, and some of her favorite writers are Herman Hesse and Paulo Coelho.
She is a huge lover of animals and is supporting the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization, while her favorite animals are leopards and horses.
