Who is Bobby Lee?
American comedian and actor, Robert Young ‘Bobby’ Lee Jr. was born on 17 September 1971, in San Diego, California USA, and is of Korean descent.
He was raised in Poway, California by his parents, Robert and Jeanie Lee, along with his younger brother.
He attended Painted Rock Elementary School before going to Twin Peaks Middle School, and eventually matriculated from Poway High School. While attending high school, he was part of their breakdancing team. He moved out of his parents’ house when he was 18, and attended Palomar College but later dropped out. While at college, he worked in coffee shops and restaurants in San Diego.
Around the age of 12, he began abusing drugs such as marijuana and methamphetamine – he went to rehab for his drug addictions three times, finally ending his substance abuse when he was 17.
He has said that while abusing drugs, he won a wrestling tournament while under the influence of LSD and methamphetamine.
When he began working on “MADtv,” one of the producers told Bobby that ‘he wasn’t funny’ and that ‘they wouldn’t use him in the show very often.’ The pressures of his work caused him to relapse on Vicodin after 12 years of sobriety. He became sober again after another “MADtv” producer, Lauren Dombrowski, defended him and fought for his position after being fired from the show for the second time. Unfortunately, Lauren passed away at the age of 51 when she lost her battle to cancer on 8 October 2008 in Los Angeles.
Bobby has reportedly said that one of the few times he has ever cried was at Lauren’s funeral.
On the 224th episode of “TigerBelly,” he confessed to the show’s guest, Theo Von, that he relapsed in August 2019 after his father’s passing. At the time of the episode’s airing, Bobby was sober for 11 days and had recently left rehab. He also refers to himself as a recovering alcoholic.
As from 2001 to 2009, he was a regular in the comedy television series, “MADtv.” He has also appeared in several films, including 2004’s “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” “Pineapple Express” in 2008 and “The Dictator” in 2012. Although they appear happy, Bobby’s fans are suspicious of their marriage, and use clips from their podcast series to prove their points. Such comments include calling her husband her ‘first lesbian boyfriend,’ being open about not wanting a monogamous relationship, and having a desire to see other people, not just her husband. She is often accused of being a gold-digger; on her social media, she makes it known that she loves expensive material belongings, such as cars, clothes and jewellery, and enjoys posting pictures of her luxurious items. Despite the rumors, Khalyla disagrees with some of Bobby’s fans, and says that she lived comfortably before she met Bobby, so nothing has really changed.
On 14 March 2018, she publicly defended herself on her social media, posting the following: ‘I had a good job, a nice home by the beach, amazing friends, a humble but comfortable life, all carved out before I met Bobby. I’ve been self-sufficient since I was 17. Yet, all of who I am has been reduced to a 40-second clip taken out of context. Ok, internet, you win, I’m ?.’
