My Skarsgård My Sonja Marie Agnes Günther was born on 3 July 1956, in Kalmar län, Sweden. Little else is known about her early life and family.
Education
She graduated from a Swedish college with a medical degree in 1978.
Career
My is currently a medical doctor in Södermalm, South Stockholm, Sweden. However, she was never fully able to practice her profession when she was still married to her husband, as she would often accompany him when he travels.
Personal Life
My was married to her childhood sweetheart Stellan Skarsgård on 27 April 1975, in Sweden; the couple had known each other and lived in the same neighborhood since they were kids, and her brother is Stellan’s childhood best friend.
They had six children: five boys, Alexander Johan Hjalmar, Samuel Kristoffer Ymer, Gustaf Caspar Orm, Samuel Kristoffer Ymer, Bill Istvan, Valter, and daughter Eija. Among her children, only Sam followed in her footsteps into the medical field to become a physician. The other four sons followed in the footsteps of their father, and are all involved in film and television, while their only daughter pursued a modeling career. There is not much information about her personal life, as her husband is quite protective of her and wouldn’t discuss his personal life even though he has a very public career.
She and her husband divorced in 2007 after 32 years of marriage; unlike many other divorced couples, the two are still the best of friends, even though he’s remarried and has two more sons, and they still live just a block away from each other.
Skarsgård sons have successful acting careers in Hollywood.
Alex won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild award for “Big Little Lies,” an HBO drama series with Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon.
He has a huge fan base in the US and Sweden, particularly when he started appearing as Eric Northman, a Viking vampire in the TV series, “True Blood,” with Anna Paquin and Sam Trammell, which lasted for seven seasons.
Gustaf is part of the main cast of the historical drama series, “Vikings,” and is on its seventh season this 2020. He was also in the second season of the sci-fi western series, “Westworld.”
Bill took on the role of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, in the successful horror movie, “It,” released in 2017, which had gross earnings of about $700 million against a budget of $35 million. He reprised the role in the sequel, “It Chapter Two,” in 2019, that gained a gross total of around $475 million against a budget of $79 million.
Who is Stellan Skarsgård?
Stellan John Skarsgård of Swedish descent, was born on 13 June 1951, in Gothenburg, Sweden to parents Gudrun Larsson and Jan Skarsgård. Growing up, his family moved to several places in Sweden including Kalmar, Helsingborg, Totebo and Uppsala.
He started his acting career in 1968 when he was 17 years-old, debuting on television in five episodes of the Swedish drama series, “Bombi Bitt och jag” (Bombi Bitt and I). From then on, he was offered several roles not only on television but also in movies, his movie debut in a short Swedish film, “Strandhugg i somras,” (Ashore In The Summer) in 1972.
He also took part in many Swedish theatre play, so Stellan already had an extensive resume in all three acting forms before Hollywood noticed him.
His first American movie was “Noon Wine”, with Fred Ward and Pat Hingle, which was released in 1985 but only on home video. His first proper Hollywood movie, “The Hunt for Red October” with Sean Connery and Alex Baldwin in 1990, was a box office hit, grossing over $200 million worldwide. Stellan played a Soviet submarine Commanding Officer Captain Tupolev of the Konolov SSN. His impressive acting skills led to many significant roles including that of the priest in “Exorcist: The Beginning” in 2004, for which he replaced Liam Neeson in the role.
It was ironic that he was considered to play the role of Oskar Schindler in “Schindler’s List”, but which was eventually given to Liam Neeson.
One of his biggest roles was that of Bootstrap Bill Turner in the megahit movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” released in 2006, which grossed over $1 billion, and he reprised his role in the sequel, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” in 2007, which grossed a little less than $1 billion worldwide.
Stellan was also part of another successful movie, “Mamma Mia!” with Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep, released in 2008 with total gross earnings of over $600 million worldwide against a budget of $52 million.
After 10 years, he played the same role in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, another box office hit but, with lesser gross earnings of almost $400 million.
His impressive acting skills and professional work ethic with a bit of luck made him part of another huge franchise movie series. In 2011, Stellan took on the role of Dr. Erik Selvig in the movie, “Thor,” with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston. He reprised that role in the sequel, “Thor: The Dark World,” in 2013. His role was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so he was also in the movie “The Avengers,” with Robert Downey, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans in 2012, and appeared again in its sequel, “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” in 2015.
