Who is Tom Wlaschiha?
German actor Thomas Wlaschiha was born in Dohna, Bezirk Dresden, then-East Germany on 20 June 1973, making Gemini his zodiac sign. He’s appeared in more than 80 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for playing Jaqen H’ghar in 17 episodes (2012-2016) of what’s widely rated to be the best series of all time – the action adventure “Game of Thrones”. It starred Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, was created by D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, and follows nine families fighting to control the lands of Westeros; the series aired from 2011 through 2019 and won 389 of its 1,023 award nominations.
Education and early life
Tom was raised alongside his brother Stefan in Dohna, by their parents about whom Tom avoids speaking in public, as they prefer to stay away from media.
Tom was 17 when the Berlin Wall fell, and he spent his senior year of high school in Agawam, Massachusetts USA as an exchange student; he matriculated in 1991, and was mostly into acting and studying English during that one year. Tom then returned to Germany and found work to financially support himself; he learned Russian, Italian and French while at school, and even though he knows only the basics, this helped him find work while making his way up in the film industry.

Tom’s debut TV series role was playing Koschi in the 1995 episode “Stubbes Erbschaft” of the crime drama “Stubbe – Von Fall zu Fall”, and the remainder of the ‘90s saw him appear in the crime drama “Wolkenstein”, the comedy “Mama ist Unmoglich” and the crime drama “Der Fahnder”.
From 2000 through 2004, Tom played Feldwebel Torsten Biedenstedt in 14 episodes of the drama “The Air Rescue Team”; it aired its 109 episodes from 1997 through 2007, starred Oliver Horner, Pierre Rene Muller and Marlene Marlow, and follows the lives of members of Hamburg’s Air Rescue Team. The remainder of the decade saw Tom appear in an episode or two of several series, including the action “Special Unit”, the action crime adventure “Alarm fur Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei”, and the crime thriller “Innocent”.
Tom starred as Sebastian Berger in 34 episodes of the crime action “Crossing Lines”, which also starred Donald Sutherland and Lara Rossi, and was created by Edward Allen Bernero. It follows a special crime unit which solves crimes across the European country borders.
Tom’s also known for playing the lead character Hagen Forster in all the 27 episodes of the popular war drama “Das Boot”, which also starred Franz Dinda and Rick Okon, and was created by Johannes W. Betz; it follows the crew of an U-boat who’ve embarked on a secret mission during World War II, the series aired from 2018 through 2022 and won 14 of its 29 award nominations.
Some of Tom’s most recent TV series roles have been in all the six episodes of the 2022 drama “Das Netz – Power Play”, five episodes of the 2022 historical drama “Dangerous Liaisons” and five episodes of the 2023 science fiction comedy “Mrs Davis”.
Roles in movies
Tom’s debut film role was playing Nachbar in the 1999 comedy “Ich Wünsch Dir Liebe”, and the year 2001 saw him play Soldier in the critically acclaimed 2001 war action “Enemy at the Gates”, which starred Ed Harris and Jude Law, and was written and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. It follows two snipers, one German and the other Russian, as they’re playing cat-and-mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad; the movie was nominated for seven awards.
Some of Tom’s following roles were in the 2001 comedy “Verliebte Jungs”, the 2003 comedy “Fast Perfekt Verlobt”, and the 2004 comedy “Pura Vida Ibiza”. The year 2005 saw him play News Crew Member in the hit historical action “Munich”, which starred Daniel Craig and Eric Bana, and was directed by Steven Spielberg. It follows the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, and five people who were then hired to deal with those responsible; the film won 14 of its 89 award nominations, including five Oscar nominations, some of which were for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay. The remainder of the 2000s saw Tom appear in several popular movies, including the 2006 action thriller “16 Blocks”, the 2008 romantic drama “Brideshead Revisited” and in the same year the historical thriller “Valkyrie”.
He portrayed Captain of the Guard in the 2011 thriller “Anonymous”, which starred Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave and David Thewlis, and was directed by Roland Emmerich. The film follows the possibility of Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford being the actual writer of Shakespeare’s plays, and it won seven of its 19 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Costume Design.

Tom’s also popular for starring as Andreas in the 2017 thriller “Berlin Falling”, which also starred Marisa Leonie Bach, and was written and directed by Ken Duken; it follows Frank who’s offered Andreas a ride into Berlin, without knowing that the two will soon both be fighting for their lives.
Some of Tom’s most recent movie roles have been in the 2020 adventure comedy “Rose Island”, the war drama “Escape to the Sea” and the biographical drama “Hilma” both in 2022.

Awards and nominations
Tom won a 2020 CinEuphoria Merit – Honorary Award for his performance in “Game of Thrones”.
He was also nominated for a 2016 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Game of Thrones”, a 2019 Monte-Carlo TV Festival Award for Outstanding Actor – Drama Series and a 2019 German Television Award for Best Actor, both for his performance in “Das Boot”.
Love life and relationships
Tom’s amongst the most secretive actors, as he hasn’t spoken in public about a single woman, or perhaps a man whom he’s been with, however, it’s widely rumoured that he’s today in a relationship.
Most of Tom’s fans believe that he and German actress Anna Maria Muhe have been together for more than two years now; she’s had roles in over 70 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for playing Beate Zschape in two episodes of the 2016 crime series “Mitten in Deutschland: NSU”. Tom and Anna have been spotted spending time together on multiple occasions, but neither has commented on the rumors about them being together.
Tom might be in a relationship with Anna Marie Muhe as of May 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Interesting facts and hobbies
Tom’s revealed that being an actor in Germany differs from being an actor in the USA, because when he’s signed to a company in Germany, he cannot shoot for other movies or TV series until the contract expires.
He smokes a lot of cigarettes, but has stated that he’s not addicted and could stop at any given moment; he’s revealed that his grandfather was a heavy smoker, and still lived to be 97.
