Who is Diego Boneta?
Mexican actor, producer and singer Diego Andres Gonzalez Boneta was born in Mexico City, on 29 November 1990, meaning that Sagittarius is his zodiac sign. He’s had roles in 40 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for starring as Luis Miguel in all the 27 episodes of the biographical historical drama “Luis Miguel: The Series”, which also starred Cesar Bordon and Gabriel Nuncio, and follows the life of Mexican singer Luis Miguel; it aired from 2018 through 2021, and won three of its 11 award nominations.
Diego’s still today active in the movie industry, and is currently working on several upcoming projects.
Education and early life
Diego was raised alongside his two siblings in Mexico City, by their parents Astrid Boneta and Lauro Gonzalez, both of whom are engineers; Astrid’s of Spanish and Puerto Rican descent, while Lauro’s Mexican.
Diego and his family split their time between Mexico City and Los Angeles, California while he was growing up, and he today holds Mexican, American and Spanish citizenship. He was around 10 when he became interested in acting, and his debut TV series role was playing Ricardo Sanchez in two episodes of the 2004 family fantasy musical “Alegrijes y Rebujos”; in the same year, Diego starred as Christian Martinez in all 125 episodes of the action adventure “Mision S. O. S. Aventura y Amor”, which also starred Guillermo Capetillo and Maribel Guardia, and follows two children who’ve become friends without knowing that their families are enemies.
Diego studied at a local high school in Mexico City, and upon matriculating in 2009. chose not to pursue a college degree but to remain focused on acting.
Roles in TV series
In 2005 and ‘06, Diego played Rocco Bezauri in two episodes of the hit family comedy “Rebelde”, and his following role came in 2010, when cast to play Tiki Delgado in the episode “Kojo BFF” of the action adventure comedy “Zeke and Luther”.
The years 2010 and 2011 saw Diego appear in five episodes of both the romantic mystery “Pretty Little Liars” and the romantic comedy “90210”, then in 2012 and 2013, he portrayed the lead character Miles in all the 12 episodes of the drama “Underemployed”, which also starred Sarah Habel and Michelle Ang, and was created by Craig Wright; it follows five friends who’ve just graduated from college, and have decided to live together.
Some of Diego’s following roles were in the romantic mini-series “The Dovekeepers” and the mystery comedy “Scream Queens” in 2015, and the comedy “Jane the Virgin” in 2016.
He’s since had only a single TV series role: in 2022, Diego portrayed the lead character Cupid in all the seven episodes of the fantasy musical comedy “Cupid”, which also starred Naomi Ackie and Rupert Friend, and follows Cupid who’s been exiled to Earth; the series was nominated for a 2023 Ambie Award for Best Production and Sound Design.
Roles in movies
Diego’s debut film role was playing Love Interest in the 2009 music video “Miranda Cosgrove: About You Now”, and in 2012, he starred as Drew Boley in the popular musical comedy “Rock of Ages”, which also starred Tom Cruise and Julianne Hough, and was directed by Adam Shankman. It follows a city boy and a small town girl who’ve fallen in love in Hollywood – the film won two of its 10 award nominations.
The year 2014 saw Diego appear in both the thriller “Eden” and the mystery thriller “City of Dead Men”, and in 2015, he starred as Will in the horror “Summer Camp”, which also starred Jocelin Donahue and Maiara Walsh, and was written and directed by Alberto Marini. It follows the outbreak of a rage-inducing plague at a European summer camp. Some of Diego’s following notable performances were in the short musical “Ur Love”, the biographical sports drama “Pele: Birth of a Legend”, and the 2016 short musical “Eramos Algo”, all released in 2016.
The year 2018 saw Diego play Dr. Luis Hernandez in the romantic mystery “The Titan”, which starred Taylor Schilling and Sam Worthington, and was directed by Lennart Ruff. It follows the members of a military family as they’ve become involved in an experiment about genetic evolution – the movie was nominated for a London Critics Circle Film Award for Young British/Irish Performer of the Year (Noah Jupe).
Some of Diego’s most recent movie roles have been in the 2022 romantic comedy “Father of the Bride”, and in 2023 the romantic comedy “At Midnight” and the crime action fantasy “Starbright”.
Other credits
Diego’s producing debut was the 2017 drama movie “Another You”, and he then produced the 2020 crime science fiction movie “Order”. He has three other producing credits: 15 episodes (2018-2021) of the biographical historical drama “Luis Miguel: The Series”, the 2022 fantasy musical comedy series “Cupid”, and the 2023 romantic comedy film “At Midnight”.

He was also nominated for three The Platino Awards for Iberoamerican Cinema for Best Actor in Miniseries or TV Series in 2019, 2021 and 2022, the middle for his performance in “New Order” and the other two for “Luis Miguel: The Series”.
Music career
He released his debut album “Diego” in 2005, and its lead single “Responde” reached the top ten on charts in several countries, including Brazil and Argentina.
His second album “Indigo” followed on 25 March 2008, and featured hit singles “Losing Me” and “Perdido en Ti”.
Love life and girlfriend
Many of Diego’s fans mistakenly believe that the popular actor’s married, but he’s actually in a serious relationship with Renata Notni; she’s a Mexican actress with 26 credits to her name, and is perhaps still known best for playing Luisa Hernandez in 13 episodes of the 2009 romantic comedy series “Un Gancho al Corazon”. Renata’s four years Diego’s junior, as she was born on 2 January 1995.
The two revealed that they were together on 23 September 2021, after they both uploaded a photograph onto their Instagram accounts which featured them holding hands. It’s widely believed that Diego and Renata had already been together for around half a year prior to confirming their relationship, but they haven’t addressed these rumors.
It’s rumored that Diego dated several women prior to meeting Renata, including his “Luis Miguel: The Series” co-star Camila Sodi, and his “Rock of Ages” co-star Julianne Hough.
He’s in a relationship with Renata Notni as of June 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Diego’s an Instagram star, as close to five million people are following him on the network today, while he’s uploaded nearly 400 pictures and videos, with most of these showing him spending time with his family members and friends.
He toured with the Mexican Latin pop ground RBD (from the telenovela “Rebelde”) around the USA, Spain and Brazil, and they performed at the biggest stadium in the world, the Maracana (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in front of more than 120,000 people in 2006.
Diego says that he’s passionate and romantic.
Working out at the gym is one of Diego’s favorite hobbies, thus his muscular body; he also likes to swim and play soccer with his friends.
