Childhood and education
Antonietta was raised in Mexico City as an only child by her father who was a construction worker, and her mother Maria Antonieta Collins Flores who is an author and reporter, and who has won many awards for her writing skills.
Maria has written seven best-seller books for which she has received four Emmy Awards and one Edward Murrow Award.
Antonietta grew up being interested in soccer – she first began playing it while attending fourth grade and upon finishing elementary school, she was selected to play for the Mexico’s national team for those aged under 19. Her family then moved to the USA, and Antonietta enrolled at St. Brendan High School in Miami, Florida where she continued playing soccer for the school’s team. Upon matriculation, she moved to Alliance in Ohio and enrolled at Mount Union College from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in communications in 2007.
During her time at college, she played soccer for the college’s team.
Career as a reporter
Upon graduation, Antonietta was invited to work at the North American Spanish language TV network Univision as their production assistant, which required her to move back to Miami, still one her favorite destinations in the US. While there, she worked with several other national programs including Premios Juventud, and Nuestra Belleza Latina.
After several years, she moved to St. Petersburg in Florida, where she worked for a CBS Sports Radio station as their production assistant, before moving to Tampa Bay in Florida where she was in charge of covering the professional American Football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the professional ice hockey team Tampa Bay Lightning. She soon began reporting on the University of South Florida’s football team too, and she started gaining recognition in 2009 after she was invited to work as an on-the-spot news reporter for the program Noticias 48/FOX2, which required her to move to McAllen in Texas.
While there, Antonietta was covering stories about immigration and drug dealing between Texas and Mexico, and she was also occasionally working as a sports reporter and a weather journalist. She went on to work at Deportes 23 as their sports anchor, and covered the National Basketball Association (NBA) games as well as the Major League Baseball (MLB) matches. Prior to her job at ESPN, Antonietta was serving as the anchor of the program which she also produced, entitled “Accion Deportiva Extra” and which aired on Univision 23 channel.
Love life and husband
Antonietta has been keeping the details of her love life hidden from the media’s attention, but her mother Maria has written about her in her book “Cuando el monstruo despierta” (“When the Monster Awakes”) which is about domestic violence. As Maria has explained in her book, Antonietta was in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend of several years, who was beating her at home and on occasions wouldn’t allow her to go outside or even see or call her mother.
It is known that Antonietta was in a relationship with Professor Mark Bergmann and they were at least together for several years, if not until this day, but haven’t married.
They met while they were both working at WRMY 91.1 FM radio station where Mark was a manager. While not mentioning their relationship, Antonietta explained how Mark helped her rebuild her self-confidence and motivated her to keep working on her career.
Hobbies and other interests
Antonietta’s main hobby is travelling, and the popular sports journalist has been all around the US for both work and pleasure, while she has also visited several European countries such as England and France, seeing her friends and working on European soccer – her favorite soccer team is Barcelona, and her favorite two soccer players are Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho.
She is a highly social person and has numerous friends some of whom have stated that Antonietta is usually the most positive person in the group, and is always giving healthy advice to her friends and family. She is a lover of animals and has a rescue pet dog called Nolancito Ryan.
Antonietta likes to watch movies in her spare time, and some of her favorite Hollywood actors and actresses are Robert Downey Jr., Johnny Depp and Sandra Bullock, while some of her favorite movies are the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Avengers”, and “The Devil Wears Prada”.
She is keen on exercising too, and has several training sessions at the gym each week, while she is also following a strict diet, meaning no fast food nor sugar for Antonietta.
