Childhood and education

Brandi was raised in the USA alongside her twin sister Karli and their younger brother Broderick Harvey Jr. by their father and his first wife Marcia Harvey. After his split from Marcia, Steve married Mary Shackelford who gave birth to Brandi’s half-brother Wynton, then after they divorced in November 2005, Steve married Marjorie Bridges in June 2007 and he adopted her three children from her previous marriage.

Brandi attended a local high school at which she was mostly focused on her studies as she was urged by her father to eventually obtain a college degree. Two years after she matriculated in 2000, she enrolled at Ohio State University from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in African-American and African studies in 2005.

Brandi worked various jobs from 2005 to 2010 of which nothing a is known about her life during those five years. Steve was raised alongside his brother Terry and sisters Pauline and Mona by their father Jesse Harvey who was a coal miner, and their mother Eloise Vera who was a housewife. Steve was named ‘Broderick’ after Broderick Crawford, a famous American actor known best for his role in the movie “All the King’s Men” which won him a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar. Steve later moved with his family to Cleveland in Ohio, and the street there in which he used to live has been called Steve Harvey Way for five years now.

He attended Glenville High School, at which he became interested in stand-up comedy and acting, and after matriculation in 1974, he enrolled at Kent State University before switching to West Virginia University.
