Biography
Chandra Danette Wilson was born on August 27, 1969. She is an American actress, who is known for her role as Dr. Miranda Bailey in the ABC TV drama “Grey’s Anatomy” since 2005, for which she also got a nomination for the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress four times. Chandra Wilson did her New York Stage debut in 1991 and began to land guest spots on a variety of prime-time TV shows. Chandra Wilson made her first film appearance in 1993 film “Philadephia.” She has been active since 1989. She is an actress, singer, and director.
Chandra Wilson Early life and Career
Wilson was born and grown up in Texas. Her mum was a postal worker who wanted to keep her daughter active, so she enrolled her in a litany of after-school activities that would set the course for her show business career. Her mother did not want her an idle child, so she tried her best to improve her and in providing her better environment for learning.
At the age of 5 years, Wilson was performing in musicals with Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars company. She went to Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She continued to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a BFA in drama in the year of 1991. For the next four years, from 1991 to 1995, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute while at the same time racking up professional theatre credits. She made her New York debut in 1991 production of “the good times are killing me” and was able to win a Theatre World Award for outstanding performance of Debut. Her other early stage credits include off-Broadway productions of Paper Moon: The Musical and Little Shop of Horrors.
During her time earning a name in New York, she also started to land guest spots on different prime-time TV shows. She appeared on The Cosby Show in 1989, Law & Oder in 1992 and CBS School break Special in 1992. She started her big screen debut along with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington in 1993 film “Philadelphia.” Despite getting a lot of praise, she struggled more in later years to prove herself.
The 1990s
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Wilson continued to turn in memorable, If brief, performances on popular TV shows. She emerged in “Third Watch” in 2001, “Sex and City” in 2002, “The Sopranos” in 2004 and sporadic episodes of Law And Order: SVU. After her recurring roles, she managed to attain considerable prominence on the Broadway stage in musicals such as “on the town in 1998 and change in 2004”.
Chandra Wilson Success
First regular work of Wilson was a TV role in a short-lived series Bob Patterson in 2001. Robert called Wilson, “the only person in the show you can imagine wanting to see again.”
Wilson worked as a temp at Bank Alex where she made presentations for the investment banking units. She worked at the Banker’s Trust location on 130 Liberty Street, right across the street from the South Tower of the World Trade Center through 9-11 when that building destroyed by an attack of terrorists. Chandra Wilson was still working at the bank when she gave audition for Grey’s Anatomy pilot. She cast as Miranda, which was a role as a blond Caucasian woman. The show became a success. She nominated in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 for Emmy award for Best Supporting Actress in the area of drama. She won Screen Actors Guild Award in 2007 for an outstanding female actor for drama series.
Wilson also played for ‘give peace a chance”. Then she also directed episode 17 ‘push’. She received nominations for four consecutive Awards from 2006 to 2009 and won 4 consecutive NAACP Image Awards.
In 2009, she was still starring in Grey’s Anatomy, she then took a brief hiatus from the show to return to Broadway as Mama Morton in a revival of Chicago.
Chandra Wilson Personal life
In Parade May 6, 2007 edition, Wilson told that she was not married, but she was in a relationship. She has been with her boyfriend for 19 years as of 2007. Wilson and her partner have three children, their daughter Sarina was born in 1992, 2nd daughter Joylin was born in 1998, while their son’s birth took place on Oct 31, 2005.

She is an advocate for people with mental and substance use disorders. In 2015, she hosted the 10th Annual Voice Award event for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
She is also an activist for the cause of cyclic vomiting syndrome and serves as the spokesperson for the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association, as well as the celebrity ambassador for CureMito after her teenage daughter, Sarina developed the disease in 2010.
