Who is Devon Larratt?

Devon Larratt is a professional arm wrestler from Canada, and is best known to the world for becoming the first arm wrestler to win titles with both right and left hand at the same time. He had a notable win in 2008 against the legend of arm wrestling, John Brzenk.

Devon Larratt was born on the 24th April 1975 in Victoria, British Columbia Canada. He hasn’t spoken much about his childhood, except that he’s said that he became interested in arm wrestling in his early years.

His very first opponent was his grandmother, believe it or not, but has since gone on to even arm-wrestle Hafthor Bjornsson, the popular Mountain from “Game of Thrones”.

Before He Became a Professional Wrestler

Devon joined the Canadian Special Forces when he was just 21 years old, and while still being interested in arm wrestling, he found time to train and compete. The time that he spent on military bases Devon credits as big help, both mentally and physically, helping him achieve his future success throughout his career.

Career

Devon entered the media for the first time in 2008 when he defeated John Brzenk; since then, he has become one of the most influential of Canadian arm-wrestlers. He has won five National Championship Awards, given by the Canadian Government, and also has a Bronze medal in arm wrestling. In 2013, Devon suffered a terrible injury that required surgery on his right elbow, which made him compete only as a left-handed wrestler. In 2015, Devon won the WAL Left-Arm Heavyweight title (196-225lbs), and the same year finished third in the Right-Arm championship.

The following year he had an operation on his left arm, the same as he had on his right arm a few years before. Nevertheless, he recovered very quickly, and the same year he won the World Arm-wrestling League (WAL) as a left-handed wrestler.

In 2016, he defended his WAL Left-Arm title, and was also crowned the winner of the WAL Right Arm Heavyweight championship, becoming the first arm-wrestler to achieve such a feat. He continued to dominate the league, both as a left hand and right-hand wrestler, defending his titles in 2017.

In 2018 Devon’s career was somewhat in decline, which resulted in several lost matches, including the WAL Championship Right-Arm Super Heavyweights final to Michael Todd. The same year, he lost the left-hand match against Denis Cyplenkov with a 0-6 score. He returned in 2019 with a win over Dave Chaffee 3-1 in a best out of five format, and most recently defeated Wagner Bortolato, a Brazilian professional arm wrestler, in a match held at WAL 506, with 3-1 victory. He is currently ranked as the third-best right-hand wrestler in the world, and as the fifth-best left-hand wrestler.

In recent events, he participated in Viking Arms 2020 and has most recently wrestled Schoolboy and Todzilla, despite the cancelation of Arnold’s Classic. Also, Devon is a coach and most recently he took strongman Eddie Hall under his wing.

His wife is an actress, and in recent years, has followed him into arm-wrestling. Jodi has appeared in such projects as the fantasy thriller film “Clown” then the crime-drama film “The Girl He Met Online”, both in 2014, while in 2018 she starred in the drama series “No Easy Days”. Most recently, Jodi featured in the film “A Storybook Christmas” in 2019, and featured in the television movie “Christmas Jars” in the same year. She is currently working on the drama film “Reliving Marilyn”, which is currently in post-production.

To speak of her success as a female arm-wrestler, she was the finalist in the WAL tournament in 2014, while the following year, she finished 2nd as a left-hand wrestler and 4th as a right-hand wrestler at WAL. Her current status is 2nd in the WAL Lightweight Left-hand Division, and 4th place in the Right-hand Division.

In recent years, Devon has also turned to training and coaching arm-wrestlers, and people involved in sports similar to his.

One of his students is his wife Jodi, who in recent years has leveled up her game, and is becoming a prominent female arm-wrestler. He has his own website too – Nolimitswrestling.com – through which he sells his own merchandise, such as T-shirts and hoodies. Furthermore, Devon is active on social media, with over 135,000 followers on his official Instagram page. He has used his popularity to promote his career, but also to address some problems, including the recent event of a shooting in Nova Scotia, among others.
