Elaine Joyce is a retired American actress, who enjoyed fame both on screen and on stage, and has made such popular appearances as in TV series’ “The Red Skelton Hour” (1967-1969), then in “Mr. Merlin” (1981-1982), and on stage in the play “Sugar”, among other projects on which she’s worked during her career.

Born Elaine Joyce Pinchot on the 19th December 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri USA, she is the daughter of Frank Pinchot and his wife Iliclina (Nagy), of Hungarian ancestry.
She spent her childhood in Cleveland, Ohio next to her brother, Frank Pinchot.
Career Beginnings
Elaine’s career started in the early ‘60s, with a few appearances as an extra in such films as “West Side Story” (1961) and “Twist Around the Clock” in the same year, then in “The Music Man” in 1962. In 1967 she made her first appearance in the show “The Red Skelton Hour”, which marked the start of a rise in her career.
She appeared in several episodes through 1969, then in 1970 featured in the biopic film about transgender man George Jorgensen who became Christine Jorgensen, actress, author, and night club singer, entitled “The Christine Jorgensen Story”, starring John Hansen, Joan Tompkins, and Quinn K. Redeker. Throughout the ‘70s, Elaine had a number of guest-starring roles in numerous TV series, including as Marsha in the TV crime-drama series “City of Angels” (1976), while in 1977 she reprised the role in the television film “The November Plan”.
In 1978, Elaine started appearing in the TV series “The Love Boat”, and then started the ‘80s with the role of Alexandra in the TV comedy-fantasy series “Mr. Merlin” (1981-1982).
Rise to Stardom
In the ‘80s Elaine’s career reached a whole new level, as she featured in several high profile projects, including the TV series, “Magnum, P.I.” (1983), then she played Valerie Parker in the television film “Allison Sydney Harrison”, while in 1986 she co-starred in the comedy horror film “Trick or Treat”, next to Marc Price, Tony Fields and Lisa Orgolini.
Retirement
With the start of the ‘90s Elaine made noteworthy appearances in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” (1993), and “The Young and the Restless” (1993-1994), while from 1995 to 1996 she portrayed Candace in the Golden Globe Award-nominated series “Beverly Hills, 90210”, which was her last appearance. She then became focused on other interests, and decided to retire.
On Stage Work, Television Host
Elaine is known for her theater work, as she won the Theatre World Award for her performance in the stage musical “Sugar”, based on the film “Some Like It Hot” – she was the lead character, portrayed by Marilyn Monroe in the aforementioned film.
To speak of her accomplishments as a television host, she featured in such shows as “Match Game” (1973-1979), then “Password Plus” (1979-1982), and “The $10,000 Pyramid” (1978-1986), in addition to other shows all of which increased both her popularity and wealth.

Elaine has been married three times; her first husband was musical actor, Bobby Van, with whom she was married from 1968 until 1980, when Bobby passed away from brain cancer. The two had a daughter together, Taylor, born on the 22nd June 1976. Joyce was known to date popular author J.D. Salinger in the ‘80s, before she married second husband, television producer John Levoff in 1985, with whom she was married until 1992 – the two welcomed son Michael, born in 1986.
Seven years later, Elaine married playwright Neil Simon after dating him for two years, and the two remained married until his death in August 2018, from complications of pneumonia – he was in hospital and on life-support for some time due to kidney failure. Neil Simon was an Oscar Award-nominated writer, who is best known as the creator of such popular films as “The Odd Couple” (1968), then “Murder by Death” (1976), and the all-time classic film “The Goodbye Girl”. Neil also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1991, then three Tony awards, and a Golden Globe Award. He was born on the 4th July 1927, so was 91 years old at the time of his death.
