Educational Background

Angus matriculated from Dulwich College, an independent boarding school for boys in London, and then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies from the University of Warwick in 2015. To further prepare for his acting career, he went to study at the oldest drama school in the United Kingdom, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) from 2015 up to 2017.

Career

First Step

Angus had always been fascinated with acting ever since he was a young boy. Most of his appearances early in his career were because his mom was in it too.

At age 5, he made his first screen appearance in the movie, “Station Jim,” produced by BBC One. He was also part of the 2005 movie, “Wah-Wah,” but he was uncredited. It was followed by the TV drama series, “Kingdom,” on which he appeared in one episode aired in 2007.

As he went through his teens, he kept building his acting resume with a variety of notable projects. In 2012, Angus was part of “Restless,” a TV version of the novel by William Boyd with the same name, and “The Hollow Crown,” a series of television film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tetralogy called “Henriad.” In 2013, he took part in an episode of “Father Brown,” the third longest-running daytime series aired on BBC One.

Angus also took part in several stage plays, most notably Shakespeare’s “Richard II” in which he played the role of Bagot, and “Nell Gwynn” in the role of Ned Spigett, both staged at the Shakespeare’s Globe in 2015.

Further Success

He became popular when he took the significant role of Josh Archer in the longest-running radio drama series, “The Archers.” It has been airing since 1951, and has had about 19,000 episodes in the span of 69 years. It is a well-loved radio soap opera, and so his recurring role helped in making his name known to the public, aside from his well-known parentage.

Angus landed movie roles after a series of TV appearances. In 2017, he was part of the short film released online called “Circadia,” written and directed by Roger Hyams. In the following year, he was included in the main cast of “Pond Life,” a movie about teen angst and trauma, written by Richard Cameron and directed by Bill Buckhurst. It premiered at the 2019 Glasgow International Film Festival, and had a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Also in 2019 he had a supporting role in the 20th Century Fox film, “The Kid Who Would Be King,” with Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Patrick Stewart and Rebecca Ferguson. He played the Young Merlin, and it would have been his ticket to a worldwide audience considering it was a joint American-British production, but unfortunately, it was a commercial disappointment, despite the critics’ reviews being mostly positive.

Angus was over the moon when he learned that Patrick Stewart was going to be part of the movie – in an interview during the promo of the movie, he said, “Sir Patrick just got involved and come on to play Merlin which, as you can imagine, for everyone involved in the film but particularly for me, to be able to share a role with him was so fantastic.” It turned out that Patrick had worked with Angus’ mother many years ago in the theatre, and so he was excited too, to work with Angus.

Angus went back on television, and was seen as Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales, from the historical drama miniseries, “The Spanish Princess.” It was a TV adaptation of Philippa Gregor’s two novels, “The King’s Curse” and “The Constant Princess” and aired in 2019. During the same year, he also appeared in the comedy series, “Fleabag,” produced by Amazon Studios and Two Brothers Picture for BBC’s digital channel.

In 2020, he had the supporting role in “Emma,” a comedy-drama movie based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel of the same name. It was directed by Autumn de Wilde and was released both in the UK and in the US, but worldwide it has grossed only $25.2 million due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The critics’ reviews from Metacritic, CinemaScore, and PostTrak were all generally positive, and it holds an approval rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Personal Life

Angus’ parents never married simply because his mother had a clear understanding and agreement with his father who is a good friend of hers. From the get-go, she did not want any relationship or marriage; she just wanted to be a parent. He is pretty close with his mom. There is no other information about his dating history or personal life.
