Early life and education

Maximilian was raised in Los Angeles in a middle-class family, and he grew up alongside his younger sister Tess.

The two began playing video games on their PC at a very early age, while they also played on PlayStation, later switching to PlayStation 2, Xbox console, and now PlayStation 4. He attended a local high school in Los Angeles and was physically very active while there, as he was playing football, soccer, and lacrosse. He went on to enroll at college but after realizing a degree was not something he wanted, he quit and worked several jobs to support himself, while on his way up on the Internet.

Career as a YouTuber

He continued playing video games over the years, and eventually chose to focus on fighting games for his YouTube channel.

Maximilian launched his YouTube channel on 25 May 2007, which as of early 2020 counts over 1.2 million subscribers and almost 650 million views combined of all his video. He first gained recognition after he uploaded his “Marvel vs. Capcom 3’: Maximilian’s ‘The Online Warrior’ Episode 1 Pt-1” video in 2011. The match-making comedy videos helped him gain more subscribers, then in the first half of 2012, he uploaded the first video of his “Assist Me!” series, in which he talked about key elements of frame data and about how to avoid dying while playing a fighting game.

As soon as the match was finished, Maximilian apologized to all of his fans for his vocabulary, and explained that he was actually trying to say ‘Ninjer’ which is a combination of ‘Ginger’ and ‘Ninja’ which just didn’t come out.
