Who is Jeffrey DeMunn from “Walking Dead”?

Jeffrey DeMunn was born in Buffalo, New York State USA, on 25 April 1947 – his zodiac sign is Taurus and he holds American nationality. He is an actor, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Dale Horvath in the horror thriller series “The Walking Dead”, which has been airing since 2010 and stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride. The story follows Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes who, after waking up from a coma, has to captain the group of survivors in a world taken over by zombies – the series is a huge success, and has so far won 78 awards, and been nominated for 208 others, including a Golden Globe.

Early life, family and education

Jeffrey was raised in Buffalo an only child, by his father James DeMunn who was a theatre actor, and his mother Violet Paulus who was a housewife – his parents divorced when Jeffrey was nine, and James went on to marry the actress Betty Lutes DeMunn.

Jeffrey became interested in acting at a very early age, which is why his parents sent him to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England not long after he completed his elementary education. After four years of playing soccer, practicing acting and his singing and dancing skills, Jeffrey returned to the US, and enrolled at the Union College in Schenectady in New York, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1969.

Roles in plays

Jeffrey has been active on stage as much as on TV. He made his debut stage performance in 1972 ,when he played Edmund in the Shakespeare’s tragedy “King Lear”, and then Demetrius in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

In 1975 Jeffrey played Phil Murray, one of the lead characters in the play “Comedians”, and then starred in “A Prayer for My Daughter”, “Bent” and “Modigliani”. The year 1983 saw him play Taylor in the Patrick Meyer play “K2”, and he also played the title character in the play “Don Juan”. At New York City Center in 1986, Jeffrey portrayed Howard in “The Hands of Its Enemy”, and at Cort Theatre in 1987 he was The Dancer in “Sleight of Hand”.

He was praised for his portrayal of George Tesman in the Henrik Ibsen’s play “Hedda Gabler” in 1994, while some of his following performances were in “Greensboro: A Requiem” performed at the McCarter Theatre in 1996, “Gun-Shy” at Playwright’s Horizons Theatre in 1998, and Arthur Miller’s “The Price” performed at Royale Theatre in 2000.

He made his debut film appearance in 1978 as Vinnie in “The Last Tenant”, but he only gained recognition in 1980 when he portrayed Joe McCauley in the drama movie “Resurrection”, which follows a woman who finds out that she can heal people after nearly dying in a car accident which took her husband’s life.

In the same year, Jeffrey appeared in several other movies, such as the crime thriller “The First Deadly Sin” which starred Frank Sinatra, and the biographical movie “I’m Dancing as Fast as I Can” which starred Jill Clayburgh. In 1981, he appeared as the District Attorney Burke in the movie “Word of Honor”, which saw the debut of popular actor John Malkovich, and some of the following movies Jeffrey appeared in were the science fiction horror “Warning Sign” in 1985, another science fiction horror “The Blob” in 1988, and the drama movie “Eyes of an Angel” which starred John Travolta.

The year 1995 saw him win a CableACE Award for Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for “Citizen X”, and he won his next and so far final award in 2006 – a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance for “Stuff Happens”. Love life and wife

Jeffrey met his non-celebrity ex-wife Anne Sekaer in 1970, when they were introduced by a mutual friend, and the two started dating several months later after meeting at a local café.

Jeffrey and Anne married in a private ceremony attended by their closest family on 7 October 1974, and not long after Anne gave birth to their son Kevin DeMunn, who has since become an actor, and is known for his roles in “The Majestic” in 2001, and the critically acclaimed TV series “Stranger Things” in 2016 – Jeffrey and Anne also have a daughter together named Heather.

They divorced in 1996 citing irreconcilable differences, and in 2001 Jeffrey married the non-celebrity Kerry Leah Bettenbender. The two have been together since – they don’t have children together, and there are no rumors nor controversies surrounding their marriage.

Jeffrey likes social media networks but believes he is perhaps too old to be bothering with opening accounts and uploading pictures onto them – he does have an Instagram account, but has uploaded only a single picture onto it.
