Early life, family and education

Raquel was raised alongside her two older brothers in Fleet by their British father who was a lawyer, and their Spanish mother who was a model, and who became a housewife after giving birth to Raquel – the family was very close, and often dined-out together.

Raquel grew up dreaming about becoming a model. She studied at Farnborough Hill Covenant, when she also started going to a local theatre, and steadily fell in love with acting. Upon matriculation in 1985, she enrolled at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in modern languages in 1989 – she continued her education pursuing a PhD in biological anthropology, but soon quit as she wanted to focus on her acting career.
