However, most journalists are hard-working, well educated people who have fought hard to earn their careers; Betsy Woodruff is one of them. Early life and Education
Betsy Woodruff was born on 31 October 1989 in Purcellville, Virginia USA. She is a Caucasian female and has American nationality.
Her parents are Jane Tharp and Scott Woodruff and she has a brother, Chris, and a sister that shares a first name with her mother, Jane. Woodruff’s mother graduated with a marketing degree from the University of Missouri, and used to work at the Patrick Henry College Bookstore, but after the birth of her children became a housewife. Unlike her daughter, Jane dislikes discussing political topics and tries to avoid speaking about it whenever she can.
Woodruff’s high school isn’t disclosed, but in 2008 she enrolled at Hillsdale College located in Hillsdale, Michigan US, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor degree in English language in 2012.
During her studies, she was a part of the university’s Dow Journalism Program.
She said that her parents, especially her father, are the ones responsible for her strong business ethic, as they both had rather successful careers and tried to educate their children on the importance of having steady and long lasting careers. Her brother shares her serious attitude towards business, as he is Life Raft International’s executive director, currently living in Bangkok, Thailand. Woodruff’s sister is a successful lawyer working at Dunlap Bennett and Ludwig, located in Leesburg, Virginia.
Career
While still a student, Woodruff started writing for several newspapers, including the National Review, the Washington Examiner and the Toledo Free Press. When she graduated, she became an intern at the Washington Examiner, where she started writing about politics.
In the spring of 2015, Woodruff joined the Daily Beast, an American news and opinion online newspaper, as a political reporter. She covered topics such as federal law enforcement, justice and issues regarding immigration. She also reported from Capitol Hill, and covered the 2016 presidential campaign.
All of this has allowed her to be seen on several TV shows, such as “Fox Business”, “Hardball with Chris Matthews”, “Deadline: White House”, and “Morning Joe”. She’s also been a guest on “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd”.
In 2016, Woodruff got her biggest task yet, as she covered the Presidential election, including all matters surrounding Congress and Robert Mueller’s investigation around the alleged Russian involvement in Trump’s victory.
Woodruff’s won several awards regarding her journalism, including the National Review Institute’s William F Buckley Fellowship, and the one that is awarded by the Michigan Press Association.
In 2014 she won the prestigious Wallace Brown Award, for ‘best and fairest young jornalist’.
Personal Life
On 11th March 2018 Woodruff became engaged to her long-time partner and colleague, Jonathan Swan. Jonathan is a noted journalist who started his career in “Fairfax Media”, an Australian media house, but he soon began working for Axios Media where he covered national political news. He became involved in political controversy when he was accused by Ronald Kessler, who is a journalist for the Washington Post, to be one of several journalists that produced sponsored articles regarding then newly elected US President Trump.
The claims came as Swan was the first journalist to release several high profile stories with information that was previously unknown.
The couple dated for several years, and although the exact date their relationship started isn’t know, it’s rumored that it happened sometime in 2014, as that was the year Woodruff revealed she had a boyfriend without disclosing his name. In March 2018, Woodruff shared several of their intimated photos, including of her engagement ring, on her Facebook profile, with the caption: ‘I’m going to get married to this guy!’ The couple tied the knot on 14th September 2019 in Washington DC, where the couple is still living.
Woodruff is active on social media and she has accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. She is rather popular on the latter two, with a lot of fans who look forward to any picture she posts.
Connections with Bob and Judy Woodruff
Many people think that Betsy Woodruff is the daughter of Judy and Bob Woodruff, especially as both of them are also journalists. However, the trio is in no way related to each other, and it isn’t disclosed if they’ve ever met – their shared name and profession is simply a coincidence.
Judy Woodruff is the anchor and managing director of PBS News Hour, the founder of the International Women’s Media Foundation, and has worked for PBS, NBC and CNN. She is the daughter of Anna Lee and army officer William Woodruff.
Bob Woodruff is the journalist who worked for companies such as ABC and CBS news. He was injured in Iraq while covering the war events and this led to him creating the Bob Woodruff Foundation which specializes in supporting veterans and their families.
