Jordan Burroughs Biography- Age, Childhood, and Education
Jordan Burroughs was born on the 8th July 1988, in Camden, New Jersey USA; he grew up in the town of Sicklerville, was raised a Christian, and is still devout to his faith. He is the youngest of four children, and fell in love with the wrestling at the young age of five – his first weight class was 45lbs.
At the time, he took the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) wrestlers as his idols, including Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior, among others.
He went to Winslow Township High School, where he became a well-known wrestler, winning three district titles, two regional championships, while he also won the state championship in the 135lbs weight class in 2006. His further accomplishments include a Senior Nationals tournament, after defeating other senior wrestlers in the US. He finished high school as the No. 52 on a list of 100 best senior year wrestlers.
College Career
After high school matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska on an athletic scholarship; he continued his wrestling career, but had a tough time in his first year, winning 16 matches but losing 13. However, he improved the following year, recording an undefeated season with 35 victories. His next year was also remarkable, while in 2011 he had another season without a lost fight, winning 36. He won a few awards and recognitions during his college career, including the most prestigious Hodge Trophy in his senior year, which is of the same pertinence as the Heisman Trophy in college football.
Professional Wrestling
He obtained his diploma in 2011, and immediately launched a professional career as a freestyle wrestler. In three weeks after his last match in college, Jordan was named the winner of the US Open in the 74kg weight class. Later that year, he won the World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Pan American Games in Guadalajara. He continued with great success, winning the Wrestling World Cup in Baku, and the gold medal at the Olympic Games in London, both in 2012, the most prominent accomplishment in his career.
Later Career
Jordan continued winning matches, titles, and medals, competing in the World Championships, Wrestling World Cups, Pan American Games, and Pan American Championships. In 2013 he participated in the Teheran Wrestling World Cup where he won the gold medal, and also won the gold medal at Budapest World Championships. That year he broke his ankle, but that didn’t stop him winning those medals, even with the fact that he fought with five screws and a plate attached to his ankle. The following year was also marred with injuries as he sprained his medial lateral ligament in the first match of the season.
However, despite his injury, he continued to compete, and very successfully. He won the gold medal in the Wrestling World Cup in Los Angeles, and the gold medal in Pan American Championships in Mexico City. However, from that point onwards, his career went into a decline, of which mostly talks his ninth place at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Since then, he has won a few more medals, but has reduced the number of matches. Although 2016 wasn’t as successful as his previous years, he won the gold medal at the Pan American Championship in Frisco.
