Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum is an Emirati sheikha who is well known as one of the members of the Dubai ruling family. Latifa has been living her life as a princess as her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is a billionaire and the current prime minister of the UAE, the head of government of the country.
Even so, Latifa once escaped from Dubai in late February 2018 but was forcibly returned from international waters by a joint India–Emirates operation. Recently in February 2021, a video of Latifa surfaced over the internet, in which she claimed that she was being kept hostage by her father in a villa converted into a jail in Dubai. She alleged she is in solitary confinement without any charges against her.
In response to the video, the UN stepped in and asked the United Arab Emirates for “proof of life” for which the family said that Princess Latifa is “being cared for at home”. She even said that she was recording the video from the bathroom as it was the only room with a door and lock.

Though Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum belongs to a royal family, she surely doesn’t like the environment as back on February 24, 2018, she along with her friend, Tiina tried to escape from Dubai as they left in a car crossing the border to Oman then joining the former French intelligence officer Hervé Jaubert and his crew on the yacht Nostromo.
Just two days later, she contacted Human Rights lawyer, David Haigh and even notified her departure from Dubai via her social media account detailing her reasons. She posted a 39-minute long video where she accused her father of maltreatment of her and her sister Shamsa along with other serious charges, including murder.
