Early life and education

Liana spent only the first two years of her life in Temecula, as she was then raised alongside her sister in Portland, Oregon by their father who is of Mexican descent, and who was a lawyer, and their mother who was teaching at a local high school.

Liana became interested in weather at a very early age wanting to find out why it rains and why it snows, while she was fascinated by thunder and the sounds it produces. She was physically active while attending high school, as she played a variety of sports, and was also learning how to dance ballet, to sing, and to play the guitar. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at the Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and media in 2008. While there are many pros to living in Oregon,  she continued her education at the University of California, graduating with a Master’s degree in atmospheric science and meteorology in 2010.

Career as a meteorologist

Liana launched her career in January 2008 when she joined the KCRA-TV Channel 3 as a student intern, and helped do daily tasks and talk to people calling to be updated about the weather, while she also created weather forecast bulletins. From November 2008 to January 2009, Liana was working both at KCRA-TV Channel 3 and the National Weather Service (NWS) before quitting KCRA-TV, while she stayed as an intern at NWS until June before she was hired full-time and became their meteorologist.

Liana stayed at NWS for six and a half years doing general forecasting. including rotations and she was also the Skywarn Spotter Program Lead.

After leaving the network in December 2015, she joined KPTV Fox 12 Oregon, where she served as their on-camera meteorologist for seven months while she was also managing the station’s social media accounts such as Facebook, WorldNow, and Twitter.

Liana joined The Weather Channel in October 2016, and has since been working as their on-camera meteorologist. She has received seven honors and awards, counting five Special Service Awards, an Isaac Cline Award, and a Gold Spot Award.

In 2018, Liana was encouraged by her family and colleagues to enter a beauty pageant, winning it and becoming Mrs Georgia America.

Love life and husband

Liana met her husband David Brackett in 2014, and after a year and a half of being together, they married in a small ceremony in August 2015 attended by only their closest friends and family. The two are currently living together in Atlanta, Georgia – they don’t have any children.

David was born and raised in Atlanta and after matriculating from high school began attending Oregon State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, was playing soccer, and was working as a news anchor at KBVR.

He is currently the President of his own company – Linguava Interpreters – based in Portland and Atlanta, and which employs up to 50 people and offers services such as onsite interpretation, document translation, and telephonic interpretation among other things. David has done a lot of volunteering just as Liana, and was the Vice President of Education at Toastmasters International, the Mens Group Leader at Portland Rescue Mission, and the President of the Oregon Health Care Interpreters Association.

In fact, it’s widely believed that Liana and David met while they were volunteering together.

Hobbies and other interests

Liana is a huge lover of animals and has two pet dogs, and is fighting for their rights equally as hard as she is fighting for the rights of all human beings. She is physically active and has several training sessions at the gym each week, while she is mostly focused on cardio and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), and plays a variety of sports including tennis and golf. Liana likes to travel, and has been to many US states mostly for work, but also to several European countries for pleasure, and has vacationed in Greece, Italy and Spain. She enjoys tasting various cuisines with her favorite being Italian as her favorite food is pizza.

Liana is keen on watching movies in her spare time, and some of the actors and actresses she appreciates the most are Keanu Reeves, Will Smith and Rosario Dawson, while some of her favorite movies are the trilogy “The Matrix”, “I Am Legend”, and “Seven Pounds”.

Philanthropy and volunteering

Liana has donated money to several charity organizations working with underprivileged children and veterans, while she has also volunteered with several foundations and organizations. From January 2010 to December 2011, she worked with Store To Door for Seniors, and did grocery shopping for older people as well as helping deliver items.

From October 2013 to November 2015, Liana was working with Adorned In Grace, and her job was to help out at the store that was selling donated wedding gowns, while all the profit went to the victims of human trafficking.

Since April 2010 Liana has been volunteering as a Big Sister at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest non-profit organization, which assigns people to talk to young boys and girls who need directions in life, or simply someone to talk to.
