Childhood and education

Marin was raised alongside her two years younger brother Mark in Boston, Massachusetts, by their father Rodney Hinkle who was a college dean, and their mother Margaret R. Polga Hinkle who was a judge at the Superior Court of Massachusetts.

Marin grew up wanting to become a ballerina, and began taking lessons at the age of five. However, not long after enrolling at Newton South High School, she suffered an injury which marked the end of her ballet career, and she then focused on acting. Upon matriculation, Marin enrolled at Brown University from which she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in theatre, then continued her education at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a Master’s degree in theatre in 1991.
