Childhood and education. Mateo’s brother Moises
Mateo was raised alongside his older brother Moises Arias in New York City, by their parents who migrated from Paisa, Colombia shortly before Moises was born. Their father is the owner of a small store, while their mother is a housewife. Moises is also an actor, who has been nominated for five awards and is known for his roles in the family comedy sport film “Nacho Libre” released in 2006, and the comedy adventure movie “The Kings of Summer”, which came out in 2013.
Mateo became interested in acting while attending elementary school, and was a member of the school’s drama club, appearing in several plays performed at the school.

The year 2018 saw Mateo play Kasim in the critically acclaimed movie “The Samuel Project”, which starred Liza Lapira, Hal Linden and Michael B. Silver, and which is about Eli who becomes close to his grandfather Samuel. Although Mateo has been keeping the details of his love life to himself, it is known that he was once in a relationship with Kelly Heyer, an actress and a musician perhaps still best known for her roles in the short film “Charlie” in 2006, and the family comedy series “Raising Hope” in 2010. Kelly is two years older than Mateo as she was born on 15 September 1993 – the two dated for nearly a year before splitting ways for unknown reasons. They were often seen spending time together in public places, and attending most of their film and TV series events together as well.

Mateo is keen on travelling, and has been all around the US to shoot for his movies and TV series, while he has also vacationed in Spain and England in Europe.
In his spare time, Mateo likes to watch movies, and two of his favorite actors are Will Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio, while some of his favorite movies are “I Am Legend”, “I, Robot” and “Shutter Island”. He also likes to watch animated TV series, with his two favorites being “South Park” and “Family Guy”.
