Melvin Edmonds

Melvin Edmonds was an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Additionally, he is also popular as one of the founding members of the Indianapolis R&B group. Recently, Edmonds came into the limelight after his death on 18 May 2019 at the age of only 65. The late singer is the older brother of the American singer-songwriter Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Late Edmonds was also popular for his acting career. Some of his beautiful performances include the 1997 movies Soul Food,  and ‘Milestone: I Care ‘Bout You’. Before that, he also starred in the 1971 movie ‘Soul Train’.

As a part of the R&B group in the early 90s, he along with his group members created three singles. The Top 20 of Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 chart listed all of these songs successfully in their list. The songs on the list were, ‘Can’t Stop’, ‘Ready or Not’ and ‘Heat of the Moment’.  Similarly, in the year 2016, the Top 10 Billboard’s adult R&B songs chart included three songs ‘Runnin’ Out’,  ‘I Want You’ and ‘Let Me Know’. Moreover, the late singer was one of  Indiana’s most prominent musicians.

Melvin Edmonds: Early Life, Education, and Family

Edmonds was born to his parents Marvin Edmonds and Barbara Edmonds on 2 November 1954 in Indiana, United States. During her childhood, he spent a lot of his time with his siblings Kevon Edmonds and Babyface. Talking about her parents, there is no information available on the internet. Similarly, talking about his educational qualification, Edmonds attended North Central High School for his formal education. Besides, there are nod details about his higher education.

Edmonds created the American R&B group ‘After 7’ along with his sibling brother Kevon Edmonds and Keith Mitchell in 1987.  That was how he started his musical career. However, before that, he did work in different places. Not just him but his group members were all employed in several jobs. Edmonds himself worked at Chrysler Corp. in Indianapolis, Kevon worked at Eli Lilly and Co and  Mitchell worked at John Hancock in Chicago. They all came together only after their group, ‘After 7’ signed a recording contract with Virgin Records

As per his achievements, the Grammy nominated his group ‘After 7’ in the category of Best R&B Performance by a duo. Similarly, the group was also nominated for 1990 single ‘Can’t Stop’. Likewise, the same year his group ‘After 7’ also won an NAACP Image Award for best new male artist or group.

Melvin Edmonds: Personal life, wife, and Death

There is no clear information about Edmonds’ married life however, he had four kids Courtney, Jason, Melvin, and Chris. The singer suffered a stroke in 2011 and was struggling with his poor health. Despite his poor health condition, Edmonds, did a comeback in 2016 for their group album ‘Timeless’. Sadly after three years at the age of 65,  on 18 May 2019, he died due to a brief illness of stroke.
