Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings
Carly grew up in Vancouver, the middle child of three. Like her older brother, she developed an interest in acting at a young age, and with her love for performing, her parents supported her when she took dance classes, and then became more active in theatre when she reached high school. She attended Lord Byng Secondary School and participated in plays both in the school as well as more professional productions held within the locality.
Some of her notable projects during this period included “The Odd Couple”, and a rendition of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in which she portrayed Titania – the play is one of the most popular creations of Shakespeare, and is often produced all around the world. After matriculating, she enrolled at the University of British Columbia, where she continued her studies in acting. The university is consistently ranked among the best in Canada, with numerous notable alumni including politicians and athletes.
Gaining Popularity
After completing her degree, she pursued professional acting work, mainly appearing in small roles in television projects. Some of Pope’s earliest projects include “Night Man”, “Disturbing Behavior”, and “Snow Day”, mostly guest appearances until she was cast as a regular for the series “Popular”, which ran from 1999 to 2001. She appeared opposite Leslie Bibb in the show which tells the story of two girls who are in opposite spectrums in terms of popularity in high school, but are forced to become closer when their parents marry.

She appeared in “Orange County”, “Finder’s Fee” and “The Glass House”, the latter starred Leelee Sobieski and Stellan Skarsgard in the story of siblings who lose their parents in an accident, leading them to live in an isolated glass house owned by old family neighbors who turn out to be crazy. The film didn’t earn well at the box office, bombing mainly because its release date was near the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Her next notable project was in the film “The Collector”, in which she played Maya Kadinski. The Canadian show tells the story of a man who tries to help people get out of their deals with the devil. In “Eighteen” she played the role of a social worker, before starring the project “Itty Bitty Titty Committee” which premiered at SXSW. -The film was produced to help gay women find more opportunities in the entertainment industry with the film’s themes focusing on lesbians and feminism. She also gained a bit of attention for her role in “Young People Fucking” which tells the story of different couples trying to get into sexual situations, but find it difficult to separate it from feelings of love.
Recent Projects
In 2009 Pope appeared in the television show “24”, playing the character of Samantha Roth who is the girlfriend of the president’s son. The show starred Kiefer Sutherland and as the name denotes, it tells of the “24” hours within the day – each episode is an hour into the events of an important day which often involves Kiefer’s character, who is a part of a Counter Terrorist Unit. The following year, she became a regular cast member of the show “Outlaw” which was short-lived, canceled after only airing eight episodes.
In 2016, she was cast in another notable role in the television series “Arrow”, which is based on the DC character Green Arrow, playing Susan Williams for around 10 episodes. Afterwards she joined the cast of the drama show “Suits” as architect Tara Messer. The show airs on the USA Network and tells the story of a college dropout who becomes a part of a law firm despite never actually attending law school. The show was highly successful though she only stayed in it for a season. She also worked on the Hallmark film “Double Holiday”, alongside Kristoffer Polaha.

Personal Life
Carly is single, and hasn’t talked a lot about any of her romantic endeavors. She admitted to having a crush on comedian Conan O’Brien, talking about it in several interviews. This proved beneficial for her, as Conan’s production company later contacted her for work in “Outlaw”. Thee is no news of any long term relationships in recent years.
She owns a pet dog, and during her free time, often invests a lot of it to stay fit as required for most of her roles. She’s been more active on social media in recent years, but only on professional events. She’s currently careful to avoid complications caused by the COVID-19.
