Early life and education
Katherine was raised alongside her sister Elisabeth and brother Graham Waterston in Connecticut, USA, by their father Sam Waterston who is a former actor, and their mother Lynn Louisa who is a former model. Elisabeth has become an actress, while Graham is a film director. They have a half-brother James Waterston from their father’s second marriage – he has also become an actor.
Katherine attended Loomis Chaffee School where she became interested in acting, appearing in most plays performed at the school, and upon matriculation in 1998, she enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting in 2002.
Roles in TV series and theatre plays
Katherine made her (short) debut TV series appearance in 2004 when she was invited to star in the drama series “Americana”, but the pilot episode wasn’t picked up by any network. In 2005, she was invited to portray the lead character in the comedy drama series “Untitled Bruckheimer/McCall Project”, but once again the pilot episode wasn’t picked up. From mid-2012 to late 2013, Katherine played the recurring character Emma Harrow in the historic crime drama series “Boardwalk Empire”, which starred Steven Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald and Michael Shannon, about a politician living in Atlantic City who is working with both the gangsters and the government.

In the mid-2000, Katherine began dating Adam Rapp who is a popular American novelist, playwright, musician and film director. It is believed that they started dating again in 2014, but split after just a month together.
