Vanessa was raised alongside her three siblings – Pete Samuel ‘Sam’ Ortiz Jr., Tina, and Sherry, in Indio by their father Pete Ortiz who was a millionaire, and their mother Patricia Marcil who was an herbalist. Pete was Mexican, who became a contractor at a very early age, earning his first million by the time he turned 30; he died on 14 September 2017. Patricia is of French and Italian descent.

Vanessa grew up being interested in acting, as she watched numerous shows and movies on TV and performed for the first time at the age of eight while she was later a member of the Indio High School’s drama club while studying there.
