He played the role of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy which was originally portrayed by DeForest Kelley – he was known for actively pursuing the role after learning about production. Afterwards, he worked on the film “Red”, which is based on the comic book series of the same name, and starred Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis. In 2012, he was cast in another iconic role, portraying Judge Dredd in the film “Dredd”, another remake of a popular franchise. Afterwards he reprised his role as Bones in “Star Trek Into Darkness”.
