Early life and education

Heather was raised in Aldershot alongside her older brother Shane and younger sister Fiona, by their father John ‘Mark’ Francis Mills who was a paratrooper, photographer and a car mechanic, and their mother Beatrice Mary Mills, who was born in India during the Second World War – her parents met while they both attended Newcastle University.

Beatrice’s father was against her marriage with John which is why he didn’t attend the wedding, and only saw Beatrice one more time before he passed away.

Heather grew up alongside her pet dog, cat, and a goose, while the family also had a goat which was free to go inside the house. She studied at Usworth Grande Primary School before moving to Usworth Comprehensive School both located in Washington, County Durham.
