Childhood and education

Jumex was raised in the countryside of Illinois as an only child, by his father who is a bank teller and his mother who is working at a local post office.

Jumex began listening to punk music at the age of nine, and some of his favorite bands were Operation Ivy and Black Flag – he was also interested in other music genre including grunge, blues and psychedelic rock. Upon completing his elementary education, Jumex enrolled at Lyons Township High School, where he met new friends with whom he began using drugs. He was eventually kicked out of high school and  hospitalized, which is when he resolved to focus on his singing career, and drop out of education.

Today, Jumex cites Nirvana, The Summer Set and David Bowie, as his main influences.

Career as a rapper

He launched his career as a rapper while attending high school, becoming a member of the punk band No Signal, and choosing the stage name ‘Jumex’ because it’s a Mexican drink and is his and his friends’ favorite.

Jumex’s debut single came out in the second half of 2018 entitled “Trapped”, together with its music video which became very popular on YouTube, and has been viewed over eight million times.

On 7 June 2019, his debut extended play (EP) was released entitled “Loner”, and the eponymous song served as its lead single. He released several other singles in 2019 – “Wish Me Death”, “Alive In My Coffin” and “Billie Eilish”, while two of his most popular songs were “Spraypaint” and “Drugs”. In November 2019, he released his second EP, “Lover” comprising six songs, with “Daylight” serving as its lead single, and to mark the end of 2019, Jumex released the single “City in the Snow” in December.

Jumex has performed at various events and concerts. In 2019, he toured around Japan after being invited by the heavy metal band Crossfaith, and he was also invited to open for the English singer and actor Yungblud when he performed at the Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre.
