Early life, family and education
The two boys met on 4 September 1984 after they both enrolled at Buies Creek Elementary School located in North Carolina, and bonded after they wrote seear words on their desks, and were thus given detention during recess.
They were 14 when they wrote the script for their short film “Gutless Wonders”, and then went on to shoot it, however, it was never finished.
The two became best friends, meeting each other’s families, and enrolling at the same high school, where there, they shot a 25-minute comedy movie about Oedipus Rex. Rhett and Link were also interested in music, and were members of the punk rock band The Wax Paper Dogz.
Upon matriculation in 1996, they became roommates at North Carolina State University, but studied different subjects – Rhett civil engineering, while Link studied industrial engineering.
Rhett graduated in December 2000 while Link followed in May 2001, and the two then worked on their separate careers, Rhett at the largest engineering company in Kansas City, Black & Veatch, while Link worked at IBM.
The two began creating comedy sketch videos in 2001, when they were both members of the Christian parachurch organization Cru, and it was while there that they decided to focus on a career in comedy – they quit their jobs and focused their time entirely on comedy.
Their main channel is today subscribed to by close to five million people, and numbers over 900 million views of all their videos combined – their most popular video “My OCD (Song)” has been watched over 57 million times since 17 June 2014.
The two have four other channels – they launched “Good Mythical Morning” on 17 September 2008, today subscribed to by over 16.7 million people, while it numbers close to seven billion views of all their videos combined. They usually upload a video each workday, with their most popular being “Amazing Game Show Cheaters” watched more than 30 million times since 5 April 2016.
Their third channel “Good Mythical MORE” appeared on 14 December 2013, and today numbers close to four million subscribers and nearly one billion views of all their videos combined – the most popular on the channel – “Eating Surströmming with PewDiePie” – has been viewed over 9.3 million times since 8 October 2014.
Rhett and Link’s fourth channel, “Mythical Kitchen” was created on 23 January 2014, on to which they only upload videos related to food – the channel is subscribed to by around 1.5 million people, and counts close to 95 million views of all their videos combined. Its most popular video – “$237 Wendy’s Baconator Taste Test | FANCY FAST FOOD” – has been watched close to 2.5 million times since 1 December 2019.
The boys’ fifth and final YouTube channel is “Ear Biscuits” they produced on 20 March 2014 – it today numbers more than 300,000 subscribers and close to 32 million views of all their videos combined. Rhett and Link usually talk about random things in the videos they upload onto this channel, and their most popular video is “The Life and Loss of Ben, Our Other Best Friend” as it has been seen close to three million times since 22 March 2020.
Rhett and Link have also hosted various podcasts together, including RhettandLinkastLive – Ear Biscuits.
Other ventures
The boys are also musicians, and have released several albums. Their first – “Just Mail Us the Grammy” – came out in 2001, their second, “I’m Sorry, What Was That? (Live in the Living Room” was released in 2005, and a couple of their other albums are “Websongs Vol 1”, “Secret Songs” and “Up To This Point”.
They have also published two books – “Book of Mythicality” and “The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek” in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
Rhett and Link have founded their own company, Mythical Entertainment and it was revealed on 22 February 2019 that the company bought the brand Smosh. Smosh’s co-founder Ian Hecox stated that Smosh’s YouTube channel would still have full creative control.
The magazine “Business Insider” featured the boys in its Top 25 Most Creative People in Advertising list in 2009, and in 2014, Rhett and Link were ranked #35 on the list of Top 100 Channels, compiled by the online magazine “NewMediaRockstars”.
Wives and kids
The two men are more or less secretive when it comes to their personal matters, but some details concerning their past and present affairs are still known.

Link is a huge lover of animals, and has a pet dog which he often talks about and which can be seen featured in many of his Instagram pictures – his favorite animals are miniature horses.

Link doesn’t like anything scary, including books and movies, and has stated how he can sometimes even scare himself. One of the things Link enjoys the most is singing in the shower.
