Early life, family and education
Ritchie was raised in London alongside his three older brothers by their father, who worked in the real estate industry, and their mother who was a cashier at a local supermarket – Ritchie is the only member of the family who became an actor.
He studied at the Latymer School in Edmonton, North London at which he became interested in acting, and started appearing in school plays – he decided to focus on acting, and upon matriculation in 1986, enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre in 1989. He spent the following eight years appearing in theatre plays, before being given a chance to show his skills on the screens.
