Who is Robert Maillet?

Early life and education

Robert was raised an only child in Ste-Marie-de-Kent, a French-Canadian village in New Brunswick, by his father who was a football coach at a local high school, and his mother who was a nurse. He became interested in sports while attending elementary school when he began playing football for fun, and after he enrolled at a local high school, he became more serious about football and also started wrestling.

Robert was interested in becoming a professional wrestler, but still wanted to work on his education, so after he matriculated in 1987, he enrolled at college and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991.

Career as a wrestler

Robert entered WWF on 11 November 1991, when he fought Bob Bradley under the ring name ‘The Cajun Giant’ beating him in a dark match, and from there went on to work for Super World of Sports as Giant Goliath.

He signed his first contract with WWF in 1997, and joined the professional wrestling stable The Truth Commission, together with The Jackyl, a former wrestler who is today a professional wrestling color commentator.

They first fought in the US Wrestling Association (USWA), before moving to WWF where Robert became ‘The Interrogator’, and was known for his signature move ‘The Iron Claw’. When The Truth Commission broke apart, Robert began wrestling on his own, while The Jackyl served as his manager.

Robert next joined the stable The Oddities before he started working for Jacques Rougeau Jr, a Canadian retired professional wrestler, and on 8 July 2005, Robert wrestled in his final fight against Jim Duggan after which he retired.

Roles in TV series

Robert made his debut TV series appearance in 2001, when he appeared in a single episode of the science fiction series “Lexx” portraying Leroy, and in 2003 he guest starred as Behemoth Jones in an episode of the Canadian comedy series “Liocracy”.

The year 2011 saw him appear in both the British fantasy adventure drama “Merlin” and similar American “Once Upon a Time”, then in 2012, Robert was invited to guest star as Momo in the French-Canadian action thriller series “Transporter: The Series”. In 2013 he portrayed his first supporting character, Heavy in the American-Canadian supernatural drama “Haven”, which starred Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour, and is about the little town Haven in which people are all affected by a curse which could cause a lot of trouble if triggered – “Haven” won one award and was nominated for 17 others. In 2014, Robert began portraying another supporting character, The Master (or Jusef Sardu) in the horror drama “The Strain” which was created by Guillermo del Toro, and was closely based on the eponymous novel trilogy.

Three of his latest roles in TV series have been in a single episode of the American fantasy drama “American Gods” in which he played Balor in 2019, the episode “Faux Hawk” of the web series “Titans” as Ring Fighter and the episode “The Swedish Job” of the superhero web series “The Umbrella Academy” in which he played Lights Out Lubbock, both in 2020.

Roles in movies

Robert made his debut film appearance in 2006 when he portrayed Uber-Immortal in the critically acclaimed American epic period action movie “300”, both written and directed by Zack Snyder, and which starred Lena Headey, Gerard Butler and David Wenham – for his performance, Robert was awarded an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.

Three of his most recent roles in movies have been in the critically acclaimed American superhero movie “Deadpool 2” in which he played Sluggo in 2018, the neo-noir action thriller “Polar” in which he played Karl in 2019, and as Apex in the 2020 action thriller “Becky.

Robert was introduced to his future other half ,Laura Eaton at a party in 1994, and the two were an instant match as they began dating only several days later. On 13 June 1997, they married in a private ceremony attended by around 20 of their closest friends and family, but this isn’t Laura’s first marriage. She was married once previously, and has two daughters from that marriage which Robert is today raising as his own.

Laura and Robert agreed to adopt a girl from Ethiopia, while Laura also gave birth to their child sometime in the 2000s.

Robert is keen on watching movies in his spare time, and his favorite actor and actress are Jim Carrey and Angelina Jolie, while some of his favorite movies are “Liar Liar”, “Bruce Almighty” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life”.
