Born Ronald Joseph Livingston on the 5th June 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa USA, he is the son of Kurt Livingston, who is an aerospace/electronics engineer, and his wife Linda (nee Rinas), who is a Lutheran pastor. He is of part German, Welsh, English and Scottish ancestry, and one of four siblings, including a younger brother John, an actor as well, and a sister Jennifer Livingston, who is a news reporter currently working at WKBT in Wisconsin.
Ron went to Marion High School, and after matriculation enrolled at Yale University, where among his colleagues were future actor/producer Paul Giamatti and future actor Edward Norton. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies and English Literature.
Career Beginnings
Ron’s career started while he was still at the university; he secured his first roles at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and later with Manhattan Class Company. Upon graduating from Yale, he moved to Chicago, where he continued with a career on stage, making a name for himself at the Goodman Theatre and other venues.
His on-screen debut was in the romantic comedy-drama film “Straight Talk” (1992) starring Dolly Parton and James Woods, after which he moved to Los Angeles permanently, in order to jump-start his career. On the other hand, he appeared in the films “Tully” then “The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot”, both in 2018, while in 2020 he co-starred in the comedy film “Holly Slept Over”, with Nathalie Emmanuel, Kimberly G. Grader and Erinn Hayes in the lead roles.
He is currently working on the biopic about Willie Pep, one of the most successful professional boxers in the history of the sport, entitled “Pep”, and is currently in pre-production. Ron is set to portray Bob Kaplan in the film.
