Many children have to abandon their dreams of treasure hunting when the real world comes knocking. Rene Nezhoda is one of the fortunates who have been able to turn this dream into a viable source of income. Rene rose to fame when he and his wife Casey Nezhoda, made their first appearance on “Storage Wars” in 2013. The experienced bidder makes his money on default storage units, on the off chance that they contain something of value or antique status. While he is considered a latecomer to the series, he enjoys the celebrity status that most of the show’s participants have achieved.

Early life and Family
Rene Nezhoda was born on 5 April 1977, in Frankfurt, the West Germany, the son of a little-known actor, Gunter Nezhoda – it’s unknown whether he has any siblings. Rene had an entrepreneurial spirit and already seemed to know where life was going to take him at a young age. By the age of 11, Rene was already trading and auctioning antique pieces, and from entering this world so early, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of pricing in the industry. When Rene Nezhoda was thirteen, his family relocated to San Diego, California, and Nezhoda appears to have developed more affection for his adopted country than the one he left behind.
Education
Nezhoda attended Las Vegas High School, where he matriculated in 1996. After this, he doesn’t appear to have undergone any further formal education, and it’s unknown as to whether he has an auctioneer’s license. However, Rene Nezhoda has a head for numbers and a lot of experience which he’s gained over decades in the bidding and auctioning industry, placing him amongst the greats.
Career
Thrift Store
As Nezhoda was already entrenched in the antique trade at the age of 11, growing older he became involved in more lucrative treasure hunting, and was eventually able to open a store, which he now runs alongside his wife Casey.
The 7,000 square feet store, named Bargain Hunter’s Thrift Store, is located in Poway, California, and specializes in antiques, collectibles, and unique items. The thrift store also has an online component, that allows him to trade worldwide, fetching the best prices for his stock. Since his rise to fame, the store has become somewhat of a tourist attraction, with dozens wanting photos of themselves alongside the famous couple.
Rene also has a hand in various other enterprises, presenting them in a succinct and candid summary on Facebook as ‘I buy your storage unit if you don’t pay your bills 🙂
Plus we liquidate Estates and companies!’ The size of the store requires a lot of administrative manpower, and delayed their scheduled appearance on “Storage Wars”.
Meantime Rene used his extensive knowledge of the antique industry to write and publish a guide on limited edition casino chips.
“Storage Wars”
A&E Network’s series “Storage Wars” premiered in 2010, and ran until 2019. The series documented the experiences of auctioneers and bidders who make their money bidding on, of all things, storage units. In California, storage units that are three months behind in rent are auctioned off to the public. The rules regarding an auction paint the industry in an even more adventurous light. Bidders must purchase the entire storage unit, with all its content with only a cursory glance at the contents from the door of the unit.
To be successful in this industry, one requires a keen eye, a little faith, and a lot of luck. Rene and Casey Nezhoda first appeared on the set of “Storage Wars” during the fourth season in 2013. While they first played a sporadic role, making only occasional appearances, they were upgraded to regulars for the show’s fifth season, and remained in the show until the 12th season, by which time Casey was appearing less regularly. They are expected to return for season 13.
Personal life
Family
Rene Nezhoda is married to Casey, who has been a co-owner of the thrift store since 2002. The couple has two children, the eldest of whom is their daughter Tatiana Nezhoda, to whom Casey hopes to hand over the family business.
While this lifestyle can often be draining on couples, this couple has weathered the storm and apparently remain happily married.
Work Interests
Rene and Casey love to work together, and have recently taken a special interest in storage lockers that were owned by celebrities. Although this has led to a couple of losses, it has also seen some of their greatest successes. In 2018, the pair purchased the storage locker of Lamar Odom, NBA player and ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian. The locker was stuffed to bursting with a whole assortment of basketball memorabilia and paraphernalia, including Lakers’ jerseys and shoes that had been used by the players in the past – a veritable collectors goldmine.
Mishaps
Things are not always sunny for the couple. In May of 2019, Bargain Hunters Thrift store was broken into, and thieves took about $400 worth of merchandise, but caused five times that amount in property damage – $2,000 due to the wreckage of multiple glass doors. The couple believes this to be a by-product of their fame, and Rene has stated that ‘I am sometimes here late at night-time, and I am armed, so if you do that while I am here, you will get shot.’ Hopefully, this will serve as a sufficient warning for any future looters.
Appearance
Rene Nezhoda is a more rotund man with amicable and friendly features.
He has brown hair and green eyes. He is of German ethnicity, and despite his affinity for the US, he still has a strong German accent. He is 5ft 6ins (1.67m) tall, and weighs 148lbs (67kgs). He has an affable nature, and is not as standoffish as other participants of “Storage Wars”.
Net Worth and Salary
Rene and Casey Nezhoda reputedly earn a salary of $187,000 per season of “Storage Wars”, which is purportedly a considerable amount less than other stars of the show. Despite this, Nezhoda still makes plenty of money from his thrift store, and can live in comfort. Rene Nezhoda has a net worth estimated at over $1.5 million, as of mid-2020.
