Early life and education
Coi was raised in New Jersey alongside her brothers Kwame and Taj by their father while she and Benzino have kept the details of her mother a secret – her father dated Althea Heart in the mid-2015 and they were also engaged, but split not long after the birth of their son.
Motivated by her father, Coi became interested in music at a very early age. She often kept Benzino company in his recording studio, and practiced her own rapping skills in front of her bedroom mirror. Coi attended a local high school, but because she was more focused on singing than on her education, she quit school at the age of 16.
Career as a singer
Her debut single “G.A.N.” came out in December 2017, and was followed by her second single “Pac Girl” – the music videos for the songs were released in January and May 2018 respectively.

Benzino was raised an only child in Boston by his German mother and African-American father, and as the family was poor and lived in a bad neighborhood, Benzino found comfort in music, and started listening to rap at a very early age. In 1988, he and his good friend David Mays launched a magazine about hip hop called “The Source”, and this motivated Benzino to pursue a career as a rapper.
Benzino released his debut studio album “The Benzino Project” in 2001, and his second album “Redemption” followed a year later – his other two albums “Arch Nemesis” and “The Antidote” came out in 2005 and 2007 respectively.
