Who is Ralph Ineson?

Ralph Ineson was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England on 15 December 1969 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius and he holds British nationality. He is an actor and a voice actor, perhaps best known for his portrayal of William, one of the lead characters in the 2015 horror mystery film “The Witch”, written and directed by Robert Eggers, and which also starred Anya Taylor-Joy and Kate Dickie. The story follows a family living in New England in 1630s being attacked by witches – the movie was a huge hit, as it won 43 awards and was nominated for 67 others.

Early life and education

Ralph was raised an only child in Leeds by his father who was an accountant, and his mother who was a theatre actress – motivated by his mother, Ralph spent a lot of his free time during his early years at a local theatre watching his mother perform.

He attended Woodleigh School at which he enjoyed playing soccer and cricket, and eventually moved to study at Pocklington School. Upon matriculation in 1987, he enrolled at the Lancaster University’s Fumes College, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre in 1991, then started working at York Sixth Form College as both a teacher and a cricket coach.

Roles in TV series

Ralph has appeared in over 130 movies and TV series, and we are going to mention only some of his most notable roles in this article.

He made his debut TV series appearance in 1993, when he played Alex in the episode “Best Friends” of the British police procedural drama “Spender”, and then appeared in single episodes of many series such as the comedy drama “All Quiet on the Preston Front” in 1994, the crime thriller series “99-1” and the mini-series “The Cinder Path”. He continued to guest star in episodic roles in series such as the crime drama “Out of the Blue” in 1995, the British science fiction time travel comedy “Goodnight Sweetheart” in 1996, and the drama “Kavanagh QC”.

His first notable performance was in 1998 when he was invited to play the supporting character Luke Mullen in the drama “Playing the Field”, appearing in 32 episodes through 2002 when the series ended. From 2001 to 2003, Ralph played Chris Finch in seven episodes of the critically acclaimed British mockumentary sitcom “The Office”, which starred Ricky Gervais, Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook, and is the story of people working at a company which has chosen to let go many of its people.

The following years saw him appear in series such as the British medical drama “Holby City” in 2002, the British anthology series “The Afternoon Party” and the mini-series “Between the Sheets” in 2003.

In 2005 Ralph was invited to play Zack in the long-running soap opera “Coronation Street” which was popular in the UK and Europe at that time, and a year later he was invited to play the supporting character Jeremy Hazledine in the British satirical black comedy series “Suburban Shootout”, which starred Anna Chancellor and Felicity Montagu, and which won an award while it was nominated for nine others.

After appearing in a single episode of over 10 series, in 2009 Ralph played another supporting character John Fry in nine episodes of the drama “Waterloo Road”.

The year 2012 saw him play Dagmer Cleftjaw in the immensely popular American fantasy series “Game of Thrones”, based on the eponymous book by George R.R. Martin, while the following years saw him guest star in a single episode of many series: he played Roger the Policeman in the episode “Arthur.com” of the sitcom “Count Arthur Strong” in 2013, Arthur Hawkes in the episode “Gently Going Under” of the crime series “Inspector George Gently” in 2014, and King Henry II in “Episode Seven” of the British comedy series “Drunk History” in 2015.

In 2017, Ralph was invited to play Adam Radford in 10 episodes of the American thriller series “Absentia”, which didn’t attract as much attention as expected, but the series was nevertheless renewed for another season.

Three of Ralph’s most recent performances in TV series, all in 2019 have been in two episodes the historical drama “Chernobyl” in which he played General Nikolai Tarakanov, in seven episodes of the American fantasy web series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” in which he voiced The Hunter (skekMal), and the British mystery crime series “The Capture” in which he portrayed Detective Chief Inspector Alex Boyd through six episodes.

Ralph has also appeared in three stage plays -he played NCO in “Jackets” performed at Lancaster University in 1989, portrayed Herod’s Heavy Willow in “York Mystery Plays” performed at York Theatre Royal in 1992, and was Inspector Fry in “Hangmen”, performed at Royal Court Theatre in 2015.

Roles in movies

Ralph made his debut film appearance in 1994, when he played a skinhead in the short movie “Syrup”, and in the same year was cast in a supporting role as Dix in the British action crime movie “Shopping”.

Three of his first performances which helped him gain recognition as a movie actor were in the medieval movie “First Knight” in 1995, the British romantic crime comedy movie “Shooting Fish” in 1997 and the British movie “South West 9” in 2001. As he was more focused on appearing in TV series, his next roles came six years later, in the British movie “Shoot on Sight” and the British crime drama “Cass”.

In 2009, Ralph was cast to portray a crazy wild-haired reporter in the British sports movie “The Damned United”, while he also appeared portraying Amycus Carrow in the fantasy movie “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”– he would later reprise this role in both parts of the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, released in 2010 and 2011. In 2014, Ralph appeared in the critically acclaimed superhero movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” playing the Ravager Pilot, while he also appeared in another popular film “Kingsman: The Secret Service”.

In 2017, Ralph was in the epic space opera movie “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” but his scene was eventually deleted, and the following year saw him appear in three movies: the disaster heist action movie “The Hurricane Heist”, the science fiction action adventure film “Ready Player One” and the American western anthology movie “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”.

Three of Ralph’s most recent roles in movies have been in the American fantasy adventure movie “Dolittle”, the Irish-American movie “Here Are the Young Men”, and the American epic medieval fantasy film “The Green Knight”, all released in 2020.

Ralph’s voice can also be heard in several video games – in 2011, he voiced Amycus Carrow in the third-person shooter game “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”, he can be heard as Charles Vane in the action adventure game “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” in 2013, and in the dungeon crawler action role-playing game “Diablo IV” in 2020.

Love life and wife

Ralph has been keeping details of his love life hidden from the media’s attention, but it’s known that he is a married man as he has taken his other half Ali Milner with him to many red carpet events. The two were introduced by a mutual friend in the late ‘90s, and they seemed to be a perfect match as they started dating only days after meeting – Ralph and Ali married in a private ceremony in December 2003.

Ali is a magazine editor who has written for various British and German magazines, and is currently working for the make-up art paper “Warpaint”. In 1999, Ali gave birth to her and Ralph’s son Luc, while their daughter Rebecca followed in 2003.

Ralph hasn’t talked about any other women he might have dated before meeting Ali, so as of September 2020, he is a married man and has two children.

Hobbies and other interests

Ralph is a huge lover of animals and has worked with, volunteered for and donated money to various animal shelters – he is the ‘father’ of his three pet dogs including the huge Dogo Argentino while all three can often be seen featured in Ralph’s pictures on Instagram.

Ralph likes to travel with his wife and the two have been all around Europe, and although they aren’t big fans of the US, they have also been to several American states such as New York, Arizona and California, mostly because of Ralph’s acting career – when they travel, Ralph and Ali prefer to visit natural locations rather than overcrowded touristic cities.

Ralph has his own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, and some of his favorite movies are “Cast Away”, “Bruce Almighty” and “Notting Hill” – he also enjoys watching sitcoms such as “That ‘70s Show” and “3rd Rock from the Sun”.

Ralph’s age is 50. He has short brown hair and blue eyes, is 6ft 2ins (1.89m) tall, and weighs around 180lbs (82kgs).
