Lane was raised by his father, Monte Kiffin who is still today working as a football coach and is currently working for Lane as his player personnel analyst. Lane studied at Bloomington Jefferson High School from which he matriculated in 1994, and then enrolled at Fresno State University after being offered a football scholarship – he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1998.
