Early life and education

Sierra was raised alongside her sister Lara in Philadelphia, by their Vietnamese mother Vu Deaton who was a housewife, and their British father Dr. John Deaton.

She became interested in dancing at the age of two, and when her parents noticed this, they enrolled her at a dancing school at which she practiced contemporary, jazz and ballet – Sierra also learned to play the piano.

She attended Lake Howell High School at which she was physically quite active, as she played soccer for her school’s team and was also a member of the school’s drama club, appearing in many plays performed at the school, and playing the lead character in several of them.

After matriculating in 2009 as one of the best students in her class, Sierra chose to focus on her singing career and didn’t enroll at a college.

Career as a singer

She met Alex Kinsey on a Florida beach in 2009 – he didn’t know about her singing talent until a month into their relationship, but it was Alex who encouraged Sierra to perform with him in the music competition show “The X Factor” – they sang Britney Spears’ hit song “Toxic”, and eventually becameg the first duo to win the American “The X Factor”, and the fourth winning duo in its global franchise.

They released their debut single, “Scarecrow” on 23 June 2014, and on 12 July, the two announced their debut album entitled “It’s About Us”, eventually I released on 7 October 2014 to mixed reviews. In July 2015, Alex and Sierra were fired from their record label for unknown reasons and without any explanation, but they continued to work on their own, and released their extended play (EP) “As Seen on TV” on 30 September 2016.
