This year, there is a new billionaire who tops the list, Elon Musk. The Tesla founder and CEO Musk surpassed Amazon Founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos to become the richest person in the world in 2022 with an estimated net worth of around $270 billion. Thanks to the surge in Tesla shares, Musk is officially the richest person in the world. Bezos holds the second position whereas LVMH CEO and chair, Bernard Arnault is the third in the world as well as the richest person in Europe. Indian industrialist Gautam Adami is the richest person in Asia surpassing Mukesh Ambani.

1. Elon Musk
Tesla Founder and CEO Elon Musk is the richest person in the world. Forbes estimated his net worth at around $270 billion in March 2022. Also, the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer of SpaceX, Musk’s net worth hit a high of $340 billion in November 2021. Thanks to the massive surge in Tesla shares, and the valuation of SpaceX, Musk’s net worth has increased by 60$ over the last year. Around three-quarters of his wealth comes from Tesla. He also became the first person with a net worth of over $300 billion.

2. Jeff Bezos
Amazon Founder and executive chairman, Jeff Bezos is the second richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $177 billion. Previously served as the CEO and president of Amazon, he is named the richest man in modern history after his net worth increased to $150 billion. The world’s richest person from 2018 to 2021, Bezos is the first centi-billionaire on the Forbes wealth index. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his wealth grew by $24 billion and his net worth exceeded $200 billion for the first time.
Bezos stepped down from his position as the president and CEO of Amazon in July 2021 and assumed the position of executive chairman.

LVMH chairman and chief executive Bernard Arnault is the third richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $155 billion. He is the richest person in Europe and the richest person in the world coming from a non-technology field. Most of Arnault’s wealth comes from his stake in Christian Dior SE, the holding company that controls 41.3% of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods company.
Arnault briefly became the richest person in the world in December 2019 and in January 2020.

Bill Gates was the richest person in the world from 1995 to 2017. As of 2022, Microsoft co-founder Gates is the fourth richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $129 billion. Credited with the microcomputer revolution in the 1970s and 1980s, he founded Microsoft in Albuquerque in 1975. Microsoft went on to become the world’s largest personal computer software company. Gates served as the chairman and CEO of Microsoft until he stepped down as CEO in 2000. Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO, Warren Buffett is the sixth richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $117 billion.
