Who is Jean Louisa Kelly?

American actress and singer Jean Louisa Kelly was born in Worcester, Massachusetts USA, on 9 March 1972, making Pisces her zodiac sign. She’s appeared in more than 60 movies and TV series, but is perhaps still known best for playing Tia Russell, one of the lead characters and her debut film role in the 1989 comedy movie “Uncle Buck”, written and directed by John Hughes, and which also starred John Candy and Macaulay Culkin; it follows Buck as he’s babysitting his brother’s three children.

She’s still today active in the movie industry, and is currently working on multiple untitled projects.

Education and early life

Jean was raised in Worcester by her mother Wendy Kelly who was a piano teacher, and father J. Joseph Kelly III who taught English at high school; Jean hasn’t spoken of having siblings, and is believed to have none.

The family eventually moved to Easton, Maryland where Jean studied at Easton High School; it was during her time there that she became interested in acting, and Jean was 17 when she launched her acting career by appearing in “Uncle Buck”.

Upon matriculating in 1990, she enrolled at Columbia University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language and literature in 1994.

Roles in movies

Jean played Maria in the 1991 action “American Shaolin”, and some of her following roles were in the 1994 drama “Breathing Lessons”, the adventure “One More Mountain” also in 1994, and the 1995 historical drama “Tad”.

The year 1995 also saw her play Rachel in the musical “Mr. Holland’s Opus”, directed by Stephen Herek, and which starred Richard Dreyfuss, Glenne Headly and Jay Thomas. It follows a composer who’s begun working as a high school music teacher; the film won five of its 10 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Richard Dreyfuss). The remainder of the ‘90s saw Jean appear in the 1996 crime drama “Harvest of Fire”, the 1997 romantic western “Stolen Women, Captured Hearts”, and the 1998 biographical historical drama “The Day Lincoln Was Shot”.

In 2000, Jean starred as Luisa in the romantic musical “The Fantasticks”, directed by Michael Ritchie, and which also starred Joel Grey and Barnard Hughes; it follows two teenagers as they’re having fun at a mysterious fair that has come to their small country community.

Jean appeared in only a couple of films in the 2000s, including the 2001 romantic adventure “Landfall”, the 2003 short comedy “Little Red Light”, and the 2009 family comedy “The Three Gifts”.

She next portrayed Tina Weissman in the 2014 biographical drama “1000 to 1: The Cory Weissman Story”, directed by Michael Levine, and which starred David Henrie, Luke Kleintank and Beau Bridges; it follows a successful basketball player who’s suffered a stroke.

Jean’s debut TV series role was voicing Princess Gwenevere in 13 episodes of the 1995 animated family adventure “Starla and the Jewel Riders”, created by Robert Mandell, and which starred Deborah Allison, Laura Dean and Barbara Jean Kearney; it follows a princess and her friends as they’re defending their kingdom of Avalon. What also marked the ‘90s for Jean was starring as Shelley Sullivan in all the eight episodes of the 1999 romantic comedy “Cold Feet”, which also starred David Sutcliffe and Dina Spybey-Waters, and follows the lives of three couples from Seattle, Washington State.

From 2000 through 2006, she starred as Kim Warner in all the 122 episodes of the popular comedy “Yes, Dear”, which also starred Anthony Clark and Liza Snyder, and was created by Alan Kirschenbaum. It follows the lives of two young couples who have different views on parenting, and the series won three of its seven award nominations. The remainder of the 2000s saw Jean appear in an episode of the romantic drama “Grey’s Anatomy”, the fantasy “Ghost Whisperer” and the fantasy comedy “Eli Stone”.

In 2015, Jean played Bernice Pope in five episodes of the comedy “Sin City Saints”, created by Bryan Gordon and Chris Case, and which starred Malin Akerman, Andrew Santino and Keith Powers; it follows the lives of members of a basketball team from Las Vegas, Nevada

Jean’s three most recent TV series roles have been in the 2018 episode “The Tipping Point” of the crime thriller “Wisdom of the Crowd”, two episodes of the 2018 romantic drama “The Fosters”, and the 2023 episode “39 Differences” of the drama “The Good Doctor”.

Other credits

Jean sang the song “Someone to Watch Over Me” in the 1995 movie “Mr. Holland’s Opus” and various songs in the 2000 film “The Fantasticks”.

Jean gave birth to their son Sean in the summer of 2003, and their daughter Josey followed in either April or May 2006.

Jean’s yet to disclose the names of other men whom she’s perhaps dated, she’s married to James Pitaro as of May 2023, and they have two children together.
