Childhood and education

Karen was raised alongside her brother Daniel in Beverly Hills, by their father Jay Gorney who was a Polish composer, and who died in 1990, and their mother Sondra Karyl who was a public relations consultant, and who died in 2015. Karen also has a half-brother, Roderic Gorney who is an author and a college professor. She became interested in acting while attending high school, and launched her career at the age of 17 when she portrayed Josette in the drama movie “David and Lisa”, which starred Keir Dullea and Janet Margolin, and follows a young man who is in a mental institution and starting to understand his mental condition.
