Kristen was raised in Chelmsford as an only child, by her father who worked for an insurance company, and her mother who was a housewife. Kristen grew up being interested in dancing, so her parents enrolled her at a dance school when she was six, and she practiced ballet for two years before joining the professional classical company The Boston Ballet, where she stayed for four years. Upon enrolling at a local high school, Kristen became interested in acting too, and joined the school’s drama club, then upon matriculation in 1987, she went on to tour around the US with her colleagues in the musical play “West Side Story”.
