Childhood and education

Lucy was raised in London alongside her two sisters – Cosima Farah Gutteridge and Anne-Marie Morwenna Gutteridge – by their father Major Bernard Hugh Gutteridge who was a poet and a writer, and their mother Nabila Farah Kérimée Halim who was the daughter of the Egyptian prince Muhammad Said Bey Halim.

Lucy attended a local high school at which she was mostly focused on practicing her acting skills at the school’s drama club, and appeared in over 10 plays before matriculation in 1974 – she then attended college and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting in 1977.

Lucy made her debut TV series appearance in 1978, when she played Alys in five episodes of the biographical history series “The Devil’s Crown” and in the same year, guest starred as Jennie in two episodes of the series “The Sunday Drama”.

The following years saw her appear in single episodes of several series, such as the crime mystery “BBC2 Play of the Week” in 1978, the drama “BBC2 Playhouse” in 1979, and the fantasy series “Hammer House of Horror” in 1980. She gained recognition in the same year after portraying the lead character Linda in seven episodes of the drama series “Love in a Cold Climate”.

In 1982, Lucy was cast to play three characters in three episodes of the mini-series “The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby”, and went on to play Hermes in the episode “Redundant! Lucy met the actor Andrew Hawkins in 1975, when they were shooting together for a TV series and they started dating not long after the shooting was over – Andrew is perhaps best known for being the son of the famous British actor Jack Hawkins, while some of the movies Andrew has appeared in include “Tomorrow Never Dies”, “Chariots of Fire” and “Top Secret!”. The two married in a private ceremony in London in 1978, and a year later Lucy gave birth to their daughter Alice. However, things didn’t work out between them, and they divorced in 1983.
