This also led to his first title fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title, which he won during the second round against Trevor Berbick. At this point, he became the youngest ever heavyweight champion with many of his challengers intimidated by his strength, speed, accuracy, and timing.
The Success of Tyson and the Downfall
Within a year, Mike gained two more championships, defeating James Smith for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Tony Tucker for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles, making history by becoming the first heavyweight to hold all three boxing titles simultaneously. Afterward, he had over nine title challengers, successfully defending each time, maintaining his title as undisputed champion.
However, things came to a sudden halt when he was convicted of the rape of an 18-year-old girl. Physicians saw that the girl had signs of rape on her while Tyson defended that everything was done with consent.
He was sentenced to six years in prison after his appeal failed, but he only served three years, and in a youth penitentiary center. During this time, he converted to Islam, having discovered it while imprisoned.
The Comeback and Life After
After his return, Mike worked to regain his titles, winning the WBA and WBC titles once more. However, he lost the title against Evander Holyfield, and their rematch was stopped after Tyson bit Holyfield’s ears. After a few years of boxing, he eventually retired from the sport as he was no longer in his prime.
His retirement also brought about the fact that he had lost a lot of his $300 million wealth earned from boxing, and that he was in debt of around $23 million, partly due to problems with alcohol, child support and bad financial decisions.

His father has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and his life with sobriety. He is also a big supporter of Donald Trump though it is not known if his son shares the same views. Despite his faults, his father is still considered a boxing legend and icon, with many hoping that Miguel will prove to be of the same caliber. However, he has yet to make any moves in the sport, even as an amateur.
