Who is Victoria Principal?

American actress, producer and author Vicki Ree ‘Victoria’ Principal was born in Fukuoka, Japan, on 3 January 1950, making Capricorn her zodiac sign. She appeared in 39 TV series and movies prior to retiring from acting in 2001, and is perhaps still remembered best for playing Linda Christopher, one of the main characters in the 1976 action crime adventure “Vigilante Force”, written and directed by George Armitage, and which also starred Kris Kristofferson and Jan-Michael Vincent. It tells the story of a small town in which oil’s been found, and violent crime’s skyrocketed.

Education and early life

Victoria spent the first three months of her life in Fukuoka, where her father, US Air Force Sergeant Victor Rocco Principal was stationed; she was then raised alongside her sister Kim in London, England and various US states, by Victor and their mother Ree (nee Veal) who was a housewife.

Victoria was five when she appeared in her first commercial, while she grew up being interested mostly in ballet. She studied at 17 different schools as the family often moved, and matriculated from South Dade Senior High School in Florida in 1968.

Victoria continued her education at Miami-Dade Community College, but was involved in a car crash during her freshman year; it took her several months to recover, and she then learned that she would have to attend the first year all over again. Instead of re-enrolling, Victoria moved to New York City for a couple of months, and then to London, England where she attended an acting school; she moved to Los Angeles, California in 1971, and began working on her way up in the film industry.

Victoria’s debut film role was playing Maria Elena in the 1972 romantic comedy “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean”, directed by John Huston, and which starred Paul Newman, Ava Gardner and Roy Jenson. It follows former outlaw Roy Bean who’s made himself the judge of Vinegaroon, Texas and the movie was nominated for three awards, including an Oscar for Best Music, Original Score.

Some of Victoria’s following roles were in the 1973 comedy “The Naked Ape”, the 1974 action thriller “Earthquake” and the 1975 crime drama “Last Hours Before Morning”.

The year 1980 saw her star as Patti Flynn in the drama “Pleasure Palace”, directed by Walter Grauman, and which also starred Omar Sharif and J. D. In 1992, she starred as Patty in the thriller “Seduction: Three Tales from the ‘Inner Sanctum’”, directed by Michael Ray Rhodes, and which also starred John Terry and Gary Beach; the movie’s a compilation of three stories about obsessive love.

Victoria’s final three film roles were in the 1996 thriller “The Abduction”, the 1997 romantic drama “Love in Another Town” and the 1998 comedy “Michael Kael Contre la World News Company”.

Victoria made her debut TV series appearance in the 1973 episode “Love and the Perfect Set-Up” of the romantic comedy “Love, American Style”, and was then cast to appear in an episode of the romantic drama “Love Story”, the crime mystery “Banacek” and the family fantasy adventure “Fantasy Island”.

From 1978 through 1987, she starred as Pamela Barnes Ewing in 251 episodes of the romantic drama “Dallas”, which David Jacobs created, and which also starred Ken Kercheval and Larry Hagman. It follows the life of Texas oil baron J. R. Ewing, the series aired from 1978 through 1991 and won 47 of its 129 award nominations.

Victoria appeared in an episode of a couple of series in the ‘90s, including the family comedy “Home Improvement”, the comedy “The Larry Sanders Show” and the mystery thriller “Chicago Hope”.

Victoria’s been married twice. Her first husband was American screenwriter and producer Christopher Skinner; the two met on the set of the series “Dallas” in 1978, and married in the same year. Victoria filed for divorce in 1980, and it was finalized a year later.

She was then in a two-year relationship with the late British-Australian singer-songwriter and actor Andrew Roy Gibb, who was a founding member of the musical group Bee Gees; Victoria broke up from Andy in March 1982 because of his drug addiction, and he died from myocarditis on 10 March 1988.

She met American plastic surgeon Dr. Harry Glassman in 1983, and they exchanged vows on 22 June 1985; they filed for divorce in May 2006, and it was finalized in December of that year.
