Gail June Edwards was born on the 27th of September 1952, in Coral Gables, Florida USA, where she grew up, and from an early age became interested in the performing arts. She began staging her own shows as a child with the help of her father, who would hang the curtain and lights while she would do the choreography. As time went on, her desire for performing didn’t diminish, but instead increased.

When she was in sixth grade, Gail was chosen for the part of Little Mary in the play “The Woman”, performed at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. She was spotted by the producer and playwright George Abbott, who after the play ended, came backstage and personally praised Gail’s performance. This encouraged her to pursue acting further, and she continued to work in commercials and plays in South Florida. After high school, she enrolled at the University of Miami, from which she graduated cum laude in 1974.

Career Beginnings

Soon after graduating, Gail finished her own play entitled “Becoming”, which she wrote, produced, and then starred in; her creation won the Miami Herald Critic’s Choice award, not once, but three times before debuting in New York. Once settled in Los Angeles, Gail signed a contract with Rio Diamond Agency, later becoming Gersh Agency, and soon made her on-screen debut as Karen in the TV series “Lou Grant” in 1978, and the same year appeared in the TV series “Taxi”. Before the ’70s ended, Gail featured in the television movie “Stating Fresh” (1979), and in the TV series “The Last Resort”.

In 1980, Gail secured her first major role as Dot Higgins, one of the restaurant waitresses in the TV sitcom “It’s a Living”. The series lasted from 1980 until 1989, and marked the entire decade, and though it didn’t win a single nomination, it was very popular with the public, and made Gail famous. She was involved in other projects too, such as guest-starring in the TV series “M*A*S*H” (1981), then starring in the film “Get Crazy” (1983), and appearing in the TV series “New Love, American Style” (1986), among others.

The ‘90s changed nothing for the star such was Gail Edwards; her first role in the new decade was as Hilary Kozak in the TV series “The Family Man” (1990-1991), and then in 1991 she started portraying Sharon LeMeure in the TV series “Blossom”, through 10 episodes until 1993, and she was also Vicky Larson in the TV series “Full House”, also from ‘91 to ‘93. She left show business at the end of her stint on “Full House”, making only one more appearance, in the TV series “Touched by an Angel”, before she retired and went to live in Arizona with her husband.
