Rebeca Valderrain Vera (Laura Leon) was born in Comalcalco, Tabasco, Mexico, on 24 November 1952 – her zodiac sign is Sagittarius and she holds Mexican nationality. She is an actress and a singer, perhaps still best known for her portrayal of the lead character in the romantic comedy telenovela “El Premio Mayor”, which also starred Claudio Baez, Carlos Bonavides and Sergio Goyri, and which aired 190 episodes in 1995 and 1996.

Laura retired from acting in 2013 and is currently leading an apparently peaceful life at her home in Mexico City.
Early life and education
Laura was raised an only child in Comalcalco by her father who was a factory worker, and her mother Jaime Velderrain who was a singer. She became interested in acting at a very early age, and was invited to play her first role (uncredited) while attending high school – at this point, Laura dreamed about becoming a famous model and singer, and wasn’t planning on launching an acting career.
She quit high school after only a year to pursue her dreams, rather than focusing on her education.
Career as an actress
Laura made her debut film appearance in 1976, when she portrayed a supporting character in the romantic drama “Pink Zone”, which follows Leonor who is working in a brothel and the love of her life Juan who had just escaped from prison to be with her. In the same year, Laura made her debut TV series appearance, when she guest starred in a single episode of the crime mystery series “Mundos Opuestos”.
The year 1979 saw her portray Lucy, a Bar Singer in the action crime movie “Tierra Sangrienta”, and she then appeared in the crime mystery movie “Noche de Juerga”, but which failed to attract much attention. In the same year, Laura starred in the comedy movie “Lagunilla, mi Barrio”, alongside Manolo Fabregas, Lucha Villa and Hector Suarez, and played Prosituta Pelirroja in the comedy move “Semana Santa en Acapulco”, written and directed by Luis Alcoriza who also starred in the movie.
Laura became famous in Mexico in 1982, after she was praised for her performance as Bailarina in the action crime movie “Presos Sin Culpa”, and then appeared as Azucena in three episodes of the romantic series “El Amor Nunca Muere”, and guest starred in a single episode of the drama series “Amor en Silencio”.
In 1991, she was invited to play the lead character Esther Perez de Olivares, appearing in all 200 episodes of the adventure series “Muchachitas”, a role she reprised in the movie “El Special de Muchachitas” released in 1992.

Two years later, Laura starred as Ana Maria de Villegas in the drama film “Lo Que Se Vio y No Se Vio de Dos Mujeres, Un Camino”, and as the same character in the series “Two Women, One Road”, appearing in all 301 episodes in 1994.
In 1999, she was invited to portray another lead character – Yolanda Jimenez – in all 120 episodes of the romantic series “Mujeres Enganadas” which also starred Andres Garcia and Arturo Peniche. Two years later, Laura guest starred in the episode “La Envidia” of the thriller series “Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real”.
Three of Laura’s final roles before retiring from acting were in the drama series “Muchachitas Como Tu” in which she portrayed Carmen Marquez in 2007, the romantic series “Double Life” starring as Refugio Urbina de Lagos in 149 episodes in 2011, and in 2013 in the episode “Lo Menea” of the musical series “La Serie Gratis”, in which she played Leonora.
Laura gained recognition as a singer after she sang theme songs in three of the telenovelas she appeared in: “Dos Mujeres, Un Camino”, “Mujeres Enganadas” and “El Premio Mayor”.
Love life and husband
Laura prefers to keep her personal matters to herself, but it’s known that she has been married to Guillermo Vazquez Villalobos for years now – Guillermo was the editor of the now defunct newspaper “El Heraldo de Mexico”. The two married in a small ceremony in the ‘80s attended by only their closest friends and family, and after a year Laura gave birth to their son, followed by their second son who is today known by his stage name Santa Lucia, and who is an actor and the lead singer of the music group Banda Sinaloense El Recodo de Don Cruz Lizarraga. Both Laura’s sons have married and left home, and she is today the grandmother of five.
It is believed that Laura was in a long-term relationship with a mysterious man before she met Guillermo and that the two split after over four years of being together, apparently because the man wasn’t ready to marry.
Hobbies and other interests
Laura is interested in fashion and is a designer herself – she likes shiny and colorful clothes, and the pictures of her designs can be found uploaded onto her Instagram account.
She likes to travel and her career as an actress has made it possible for her to travel all around the US while she has also been to several European countries ,such as Italy, Spain and France – her dream travel destination is Paris in France.
She is a highly social person, who is focused on spending her free time with her closest friends and family.
Late at night, Laura likes to watch Mexican movies and series, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal and Salma Hayek, while some of her favorite movies are the animated film “Coco”, the thriller drama “Miss Bala”, and the comedy “Instructions Not Included”.
