Early life and education
Charlie was raised in Los Angeles by his parents, who came to the US from Russia shortly before he was born – his father is a taxi driver while his mother is a nurse. Charlie became interested in boxing at the age of six after watching fights on TV, and convincing his father to pay for boxing lessons.

He attended Fairfax High School where he had many problems, as he was often fighting with his peers, and his parents were called to school numerous times.
Upon matriculation, he didn’t enroll at college but rather began working two jobs to financially support himself, while simultaneously practicing boxing. Charlie was already going to the gym while attending high school and was also playing football and soccer.

Charlie decided to become a professional boxer when he was 18, and soon had his first professional fight when he competed in the welterweight category versus Andrew Hartley, however, Charlie was disqualified for unknown reasons, and never fought professionally after that.
He continued fighting amateurs, and then launched a career on the internet, becoming ‘an internet troll’.
He launched his channel on YouTube on 12 September 2017, and has since gathered nearly 70,000 subscribers and over 40 million views of all his videos combined. All of his videos are related to boxing, with two of his most popular being “Top 5 Charlie Zelenoff Losses (MUST SEE)!” which has been viewed over 17 million times since 30 December 2017, and “Getting Ran Up On By Crazy Tempo” which has been seen over 4.6 million times since it was uploaded on 19 July 2018.
Charlie considers himself to be the Underground Boxing Federation World Champion, and has his own fake championship belts which he occasionally takes with him when he goes outside. There is a full-length documentary film made about Charlie called “Troll Champion: The Charlie Zelenoff Story”, and in the film one can see him training alongside professional boxers, as well as fighting amateurs and those who had never had a fight in their lives, but were paid to fight him.

Charlie met Daria while the two were still teenagers, but they didn’t start dating until mid ‘10s when Charlie started gaining recognition on the internet.
They married in 2016 in a small ceremony organized in Los Angeles, which only their closest friends and family attended. Daria can often be seen featured in Charlie’s pictures on Instagram, as well as in some of his YouTube videos. They don’t have children together, as they both want to be dedicated to their careers right now.

He enjoys being active on the internet, and is supported by his wife who believes he will indeed become the best boxer one day.

Charlie enjoys watching comedy movies as well, while he occasionally watches stand-up performances at a local bar. He had a dream of becoming a stand-up comedian himself, but that hasn’t worked out for him.
