Carly was raised in Florida alongside her brother by their parents; not a lot is known about her family, but her father was allegedly a lawyer, and her mother was an accountant until she gave birth, and chose to become a housewife.
Carly became interested in acting when she appeared in her first school play at the age of 11. She continued acting while attending a local high school, and most often played lead roles – she was also interested in creative writing, and was encouraged by one of her teachers to write a book or even a movie script. Upon matriculation in 2003, Carly enrolled at Florida State University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 2007.
Career as an actress and writer
Carly worked various jobs to financially support herself for two years after graduation, before she launched her career in the film industry as the post-production assistant for the pilot episode of the comedy series “Men of a Certain Age” – it starred Ray Romano and Scott Bakula and was a hit, winning seven awards while it was nominated for 10 others, including two Primetime Emmys.
She made her debut film appearance in 2010, when cast to play a movie starlet in the romantic comedy “New Low”, but which failed to attract much attention. Then in the same year she started appearing in her husband’s comedy series “Tosh.0”, subsequently 77 episodes until 2015 – she also wrote 16 episodes of the show.

From 2016 to 2018, Carly worked on the crime comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, serving as the story editor for 23 episodes, the executive story editor for 12 episodes, and having written four episodes.
Most recently in 2019, Carly wrote the documentary sport film “And Two If by Sea: The Hobgood Brothers”, directed by Justin Purser and which starred her husband, CJ and Damien Hobgood. The movie follows two brothers who become two of the best surfers on Earth.
Love life and marriage with Daniel Tosh
Carly met Daniel Tosh in 2010 on the set of “Tosh.0”, and the two started going out after Daniel asked her out on a date.
It took them six years of dating to marry on 15 April 2016 – the private ceremony was organized in Malibu in California, and attended by the two’s closest friends and family.
